I have a 3.39 cumulative gpa, with about a 3.7 within my major from a top 20 University--at least according to the US News rankings. I took the LSAT twice, first time got a 161, 165 the second time (about 5 below my practice average, ugh.) My only question is what chances I have at UT-Austin as an out of state, non-URM applicant. According to Law School Predictor I'm a weak consider, and am in the 29th percentile of all applicants given my numbers. It seems like the numbers for Texas have a strong upward trend in recent years, though, so I'm wondering if the application money would likely be better spent elsewhere. Thanks for the help

I should also add some previous numbers from my undergraduate college. Note: these are from the 2007-2008 application year.

Of the 21 students who were accepted to Texas, the mean LSAT was a 166.1, and the mean gpa was 3.58. Of the 6 students who ultimately chose to matriculate at Texas, the mean LSAT was 162.7, and the mean gpa was 3.56.

Has 0 to do with law school. If you want to go to Texas you should retake the LSAT and make around a 172.

It has everything to do with law school. The numbers I gave are from students from my university who applied to and were accepted at Texas. I fail to see how they are irrelevant.

Because what has happened to others has nothing to do with what will happen to you. Look at LSN, use lawschoolpredictor, ask any body, your chances of being admitted are slim to zero.

Because the other site clearly shows you have no chance.

Yes, your chances are slim. From what I've read, they are pretty choosy when picking out of staters.

Also, while I get your point that he says other people's scores are not good indicators of success, and then sends you to LSN, but it's important to know the difference between less than 10 data points and several hundred. Don't compare yourself to other people from you school, UG means little in l.s. apps.

Retake the LSAT and score higher (your gpa is hurting you) or go for Houston?

General knowledge seems to be that UT has gone very GPA-heavy recently. It was my dream school as well but I was a low GPA/high LSAT applicant. They don't be wantin' our kind. Rock a 170 on the LSAT and you have a chance.

The best shot for the OP would be to move to Texas, get residency, and then make a 168+ on the LSAT.

I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious where you heard this? That's good news for me, if it's true. I'm a 3.8/162 Latino who's also a Texas resident.
