You may be waitlisted first, but I know folks with 170/3.0 that got into GWU. As for the others, you should check LSN and LSP.

For someone with splitter-ish GPA, 169 is really in limbo. Honestly, I'm not sure you'd see much of a difference in acceptances at this point in the cycle than a 167/3.4. As stands, you really don't have much chance at either of your reaches (below median both stats at NW, same at U of C). UCLA is out, as are GTown FT and likely Cornell. 50/50 at USC, and likely in at the rest. If you can bump that LSAT up to 170/171, things would be looking much better for you.

I would guess in at BC and BU, but what do I know? Take a look at some similarly-numbered users at lawschoolnumbers.com to get a rough idea of how their cycles went.

UCLA and USC seem to favor high GPAs, so you may be out of luck with regard to the schools in a "real city," as you call it.

Isn't this a rather loose application of the term splitter? I suppose you did say "splitter-ish," but I was under the impression that splitters generally have GPAs that are much closer to 3.0 than 3.5.

I noticed that USC takes alot of people with my numbers and even below. UCLA, takes about 25% of applicants who apply with my numbers (according to LSN etc...) so hopefully I'll be one of them.
Cornell seems to be amenable to my numbers too.

Actually I'm surprised at Cornell assessment. I am above their 50th percentile in GPA and above 75th percentile in LSAT. On hourmud, it places me at a 50% chance of getting in, with 18 accepted, 20 rejected.

UCLA is a big iffy, since it seems that out of 32 applicants who applied with my numbers, only 9 got in. Hope I'm one of them. Doubt it though.

USC, says 11 people were accepted, 11 rejected, giving me a 50% chance.

Only 2 people have been in with equal or worse so far this cycle at Cornell. I don't think that necessarily means that you're out, but it's certainly not a comfortable position.

It's kind of early for this cycle. Majority of applicants apply mid january even. That's why the advantage is for people who apply earlier, they wont be competing on that. Still, people who applied after November still haven't gotten decisions yet.

But if you look at 2009 fall admissions, both USC and Cornell accepted a good number of people with my numbers, and UCLA accepted about 20% of applicants with my numbers, so I mean, the chance is there. I am above UCLA's 75th percentile on LSAT so hopefully that, along with my application package, will be helpful.

Oh let me add, here are my softs:

- Work Experience: Summer as a law clerk. Experience in court room and experience with legal documents such as depositions (actually drafting and summarizing such documents).

Worked as a staffing coordinator at a healthcare agency for 3 years, a lot of experience in medical industry (but from a legal/office perspective).

- Volunteer with environmental groups, planted trees in disadvantaged neighborhoods, educate on environmental issues.


Do you guys think my work experience, which is full-time experience, will be helpful in getting me in at UCLA? Or Northwestern?

We have similar numbers, and I was deferred to RD at Cornell (I applied EA). I'm thinking that this indicates that we're on the cusp (either of In/WL or WL/out). I'm hoping for the former.

Still, if I get on Cornell and UCLA WL, I'll be happy. I'll try my best to get off it at that point.

I'm in at UCLA, deferred (not outright rejected) from Cornell, and got into other T30 schools. My stats are on LSN. I did ED to UCLA, so you should take my case with a grain of salt but I think you have a strong shot at UCLA RD.

I was accepted ED, so I have to accept it. It's been fun looking at apartments and malls in LA instead of writing my thesis... now that I'm in law school, it's so tempting to drop the damn thing and just smoke through my last semester - but I won't because I love researching the Equal Protection Clause! If dean schwartz was able to identify me on this board =/

Nice. I'm e-mailing UCLA my DS and the answer to the optional statement (on how to contribute to a specific law specialization) right now. I wanted to give them more time and thought but also wanted my application out before Christmas (I wrote a great PS).

I don't know how much such statements help, but I figure it can't hurt to send them in.
