Re: Chicago ASW thoughts
I had fun! Speaking with professors and current students was really helpful and the financial aid session cleared some things up for me. There was a lot of talking at us, but plenty of time for the mingling, which people were surprisingly good at! The students weren't weird or antisocial, and seemed to really have a lot of respect for the school. Hyde Park was cute, though I can definitely see how it may get boring. I spent some time up north in Logan Square and Roscoe Village, which I really liked, but I don't see it being worth the commute (about 25mins to south loop). I never felt unsafe on the train by myself and just overall really liked the visit. Yay Chicago! A lot of the prospectives seemed pretty set on Chicago, too, which was cool.

I got the salad and it was actually really good. Suckas!Xifeng wrote:I thought the professors were really amazing. The students seemed really nice too; I liked how they paired us up at lunch on Friday and gave us a long time to talk (if only the boxed lunches were better!).
Karla was REALLY helpful, especially with explaining IBR and loans and things. Everyone seemed to know their stuff and were really excited about Chicago.

Re: Chicago ASW thoughts
I really loved the school. The campus and classrooms were really nice. The most convincing thing to me was the professors/faculty and the current students. Every 1L, 2L, or 3L I spoke to was easily approachable, smart, and had very nice/helpful things to say about the school. I also really like the relationships they seemed to have with the faculty and staff. I often saw them cracking jokes at/with the professors and faculty which made it seem like a very relaxed, un-Rigorous environment. I even got to speak to ex-Dean Levmore who was really funny and it seemed like he was always around considering he knew all the current students I was talking to by name.
As far as the prospectives go, everyone I met seemed very smart and eager to learn (Some kids were even taking notes at US v Arizona and the mock class). Understandably there were a few awkward moments where we really had nothing left to talk about, but thats expected. Overall, I'm convinced U of C knows what they are doing when they put together a class, judging from all the currents. I cannot wait to start school in September. ASW (the mock class especially) has me excited to start school so that I can actually be interested and actively engaged in some form of studying/learning that I find interesting and that will prove to be useful in my career.
The University of Chicago. The Law School, Class of 2014 is going to be the BEST! Can't wait to be in Hyde Park with ya'll studying our lives away!

I enjoyed the way students associated with the faculty. One of the faculty members I spoke with on Thursday at the opening reception was very nice. Then, remarkably enough, on Saturday he came and spoke with me again, wishing me luck on my decision. This faculty member then was the first and last conversation I had at UChicago. I was impressed.

Things I loved: Meeting TLS-ers, class visit, mock class (though I was probably the only person there thinking "Omg, this is like the central conflict in Njal's Saga!"), free booze, laser light bowling alley, the campus, Lior.
Things I wasn't as keen on: Weather, deep dish pizza, that all the chicken salad sandwiches were gone before I got to lunch.

Oooh - it's a good thing someone didn't grab the last chicken salad right in front of you. The rumor mill at a small school can be a vicious form of self-help.JFo wrote:

Seriously, though, I've really loved reading through everyone's posts and rehashing the highlights of the weekend. I don't know if I met anyone from TLS, but all the admits I talked to were friendly, down-to-earth, and nerdy in the best way possible. I still have to make the final call, but it looks like it's going to be UChicago!

I had deep dish at Giordanos and it was heavenly.

Thought the current students were awesome. Some of the admits were weird, but I assume it was none of you.

Forgot to mention that if any of you were the ones that decided it was okay to whisper/giggle/flirt throughout the entire Miles (Sec Reg) class, that was very unrigorous of you.
Also, fuck you.
