I don't come here for positivity. I come here for information.

In short, I was a reverse splitter who almost went to a terrible school with a 140s LSAT score. Fast forward a few years and 2 LSAT retakes later, I'm now at HYS with a firm job/clerkship lined up. I would be a desperate graduate buried in debt right now if it weren't for TLS.

Information that helps you is positive information. Ergo you come here for [some kind of] positivity.seanbodonovan wrote:I don't come here for positivity. I come here for information.

Re: What positivity have you gained from this forum?
I haven't been around near as long as Platopus, I found TLS after working for a year and when I began studying for the LSAT. But most of the stuff from his post applies.Platopus wrote:I'll bite. I've been lurking TLS for YEARS (since my senior year of high school).
Here are a few of the things I found positive about TLS, even from just lurking:
1. Before I even started college I found out just how important GPA and LSAT were. Knowing this I tried really, really hard and managed a pretty damn good GPA. If the importance of GPA and LSAT weren't hammered so relentlessly on here, I'm probably would've settled for a worse GPA. Similarly, I realized that undergrad really doesn't matter, something that I would've figured made a huge deal. So instead of aiming for sTTTate school, I set my targets high and worked like hell to give myself a shot.
2. When I graduated college and was convinced law school couldn't wait, I came to this site and realized I should probably just find a job. Which I did, and it has moved me from the K-JD pile to the 2+ years of WE pile. More importantly, I figured out a real reason why I want to attend law school. TLS reminded me that it wasn't a very good default option. Instead, I challenged myself to find a legit career. And now, after a couple years, law school actually makes some sense.
3. I owe my LSAT score entirely to this site. All the stickied-guides helped me figure out how to study, and the study group kept me sane during 5+ months of LSAT hell.
4. Personal statement feedback. Again, very valuable for getting a feel about which direction to take my PS. There's no way I could've found the same resource outside of TLS.
5. School-specific interview questions and tips. Again, super helpful to see what I might be asked.
Remember, even though many of us are just applicants advising other applicants, remember that there are alumni, consultants, and even former adcoms on here as well. (Or their advice has been aggregated here.)
Should any one post/suggestion/user be taken as the gospel? Absolutely not. But the wisdom of the crowd on here seems to have served me well so far.

Re: What positivity have you gained from this forum?
I found the LSAT prep advice and PS feedback invaluable. Even more so, the advice regarding deciding which school to attend. Most sites don't provide any insight into debt vs value of education. I've found they either say "don't worry about debt," or "don't go to law school at all because it's not worth it."
All in all, this forum has been an excellent resource for me. I found it amusing attending LS forums and my LSAT prep course and listening to other people's perceptions of law school and the admissions process. I should've been a better person and referred some of them to this forum.

Knowing which schools will give you fee waivers if you just email saved me so, so much money. I think TLS is really helpful when you have a specific question or issue you're dealing with, not so much for the constant obsessing.

As an AA female this site has been such a resource considering my entire family knew next to nothing about law school and I'd be the first in my family to go. Yeah you have to filter some information out but let's just say before this site I wasn't even using real lsat questions to study

And enter at your own risk. The lounge is a lot of fun but introductions can be a little rough for the uninitiated.

Also, it's cool knowing that you're pretty much in the same boat as everyone else and you're all stressing together! Neither of my parents went to college, let alone law school, so this was pretty unchartered territory for me. Having lurked for quite some time, the advice on here has been invaluable
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
