I feel like it wouldn't make a huge difference even with some pre-admits... I say as I keep delaying my 250...

So do we know for sure their admissions process hasn't changed? I haven't submitted my app yet because I always thought early apps didn't get much of an advantage so I'm obsessively checking and re-checking all my stuff (aka procrastinating on spending that $$$). "Ask Asha" is still up (albeit not recently updated) so I didn't even know there was a new dean.

We don't know anything, but I'd say, don't sacrifice quality for speed.

obsessive thought of the day: I feel so much more personally invested in my Yale app than in my other apps because of that damned 250... that rejection is gonna sting like hell no matter how much I know it's coming

Agreed...the 250 is killing me. I've rewritten it three times and I hate them all.

I wouldn't worry about the timing of your application. The reason YLS is traditionally timing-insensitive is because of their faculty-review process, which, according to Asha, "has been around as long as anyone can remember". It would be strange for YLS to retool a system that has produced such great results for them over the years.

Conceivably, on the margins, Yale might (for example) start caring more about work experience or shy away from splitters under new management. But I don't see why they would start favoring earlier applications.

He's a ridiculously expensive, well-informed guy who runs an admissions consulting business. I think ticket was implying you could ask him

I’m so honored that you replied haha. But for real tho, I’ve been reading some of your past posts and they’re *magically* insightful. I thought you were a mole working as an adcom at first since you know so much.

Well I would note since you brought it up that Adcoms read these message boards every day, which is why I generally like to stay off their school specific threads. But since we are here, I'd say there is no real reason to anticipate much change. Yale, unlike most schools, still utilizes a faculty admissions committee. They still have the 250 Essay. They still are at the top of the totem poll so can do things as far as selectivity and timing that others can not. The only really change is applications and applicants are going to be way up this cycle, so it will be a harder cycle, starting at the top. I hope this helps!

Am I crazy or does the app this year not have an option to for African American students to identify as African American? I can't find it.

Nope, it doesn't. Perhaps to guard from non-URMs checking it off, just to get "the URM boost," but that's just me speculating. If anything, write about it in your personal/diversity statement, which I assume most URMs will do and you''ll be fine. :)

Anyone who hasn't submitted yet want to swap 250s?

Also, just need a gut check here, but if I directly quote a book, and have the book title + author in my 250, I don't need any kind of formal citation, correct? Direct quotes are just a couple of words each.

I haven't submitted if you'd like to swap. Also, I don't think you need formal citations, point blank. This isn't a paper.

If they're continuing with Asha's approach, we're likely looking at a wave of admits in the next 12 days or so... :?

+1 I'd lose my shit if I were in that first wave. Applied the first day the app was available.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
