Seems like it took about a month, based on last year's thread. Prior years were similar.wiseman96 wrote:UR1 also! Submitted mid-September. Anyone know how long it took last year between UR1 and the first round of decisions?

Hey guys, this might (probably) be a stupid question but I'm curious about Penn's so-called "ED boost." Could anyone speculate on how this boost is quantified? Like is it equivalent to 1 pt on the LSAT or .05 on GPA? Or maybe just a super strong "Why Penn" which in this case would be equal to less than a strong soft?

Supposedly a 208% boost
I've seen other blog posts that site a similar Penn ED boost, but I'm in lazy Sunday mood and don't feel like finding them again

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Thank you! I saw this website too so I guess I want to know what might make a 208% boost. Like say they added 1 pt to all ED applicant's LSAT scores. Would this be enough lead to such a boost? 208% seems high to me so (wishful thinking) I'm hoping they view my LSAT score as higher than it really is, even if they report it the same.PostNihilist wrote:https://blog.powerscore.com/lsat/applyi ... -not-to-edwannabegenius wrote:Hey guys, this might (probably) be a stupid question but I'm curious about Penn's so-called "ED boost." Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
What I am about to say is complete speculation but I'm a pretty quantitative thinker so I think this makes more sense. I think rather than the ED-Boost being a quantifiable thing such as adding a point to your LSAT score or .05 to GPA, I think it rather signifies lowered standards of admission for ED applicants. Again I am speculating but I could see them setting averages for both LSAT and GPA for ED applicants based on the pool and those numbers will most likely be much lower than the pool for regular applicants.wannabegenius wrote:Thank you! I'm in the same boat as you since I applied ED and I'm really hoping I get in lol.

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Better, I think, to think about it in terms of medians. If you're a 168/3.85 you're probably not getting a "1-point boost" that pushes you over the edge because you applied ED. But a 170/3.5 or a 166/3.95 probably noses ahead of all the other (reverse) splitters because they apparently love Penn, won't cost any scholarship money, and are almost guaranteed to matriculate (making it easier to tinker with medians).wannabegenius wrote:Thank you! MyLSN seems to bear this out. Check out what applying ED does for reverse splitters (this actually surprised me):
And here's splitters (less airtight but still a big boost):
On the other hand, people below both medians get almost completely boxed out, whether they apply ED or not:
ED is probably also useful for avoiding yield protection if you're at risk of that, which might explain part of the data behind that 208% number, but that's an especially dumb reason to apply ED.

Re: Penn Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Thank you so much! I think this is what I was looking for (that there is no way to really quantify the boost in terms of points). At 164/3.93 I'm barely a reverse splitter since I'm below the 75% GPA so that's why I was hoping there would be a point boost somewhere (wishful thinking as I speculated).icechicken wrote:Better, I think, to think about it in terms of medians. I wouldn't sweat the 75th percentile too much in this case. A split's a split, and there aren't a whole lot of 3.9s left one HYSC finish glutting themselves. Accepting ED applicants like you is important to Penn's rankings strategy - they couldn't maintain that GPA median otherwise.wannabegenius wrote:At 164/3.93 I'm barely a reverse splitter since I'm below the 75% GPA so that's why I was hoping there would be a point boost somewhere (wishful thinking as I speculated).
