Is there any benefit to applying early or is it more like Yale? The optional essay has been killing me

Re: Stanford Law Applicants c/o 2021
Based on last year, the earlier you apply, the earlier you find out (only if you're accepted, that is). Sept. applicants heard in the first wave, early Oct. the second, and mid-to-late Oct. the third. Not sure if it disadvantages you not to apply later, though.tinycatfriend wrote:Is there any benefit to applying early or is it more like Yale? The optional essay has been killing me

Just KH--the real black box is trying to gauge whether being a KH finalist means anything about your SLS chances.black_mirror wrote:Are we expecting JD decisions tomorrow or only KH?

Not a KH applicant, but they released JD decisions last year on the 15th. What makes you certain they couldn't do it again?KENYADIGG1T wrote:Just KH--the real black box is trying to gauge whether being a KH finalist means anything about your SLS chances.black_mirror wrote:Are we expecting JD decisions tomorrow or only KH?

Well KH is not specific to SLS, but all graduate programs at S. SLS could very well release decisions, but that's not something that I can glean from the fact that KH is coming out tomorrow. Would it make sense to admit? Absolutely. I just don't have evidence to call it a sure thing.zachbp13 wrote:Not a KH applicant, but they released JD decisions last year on the 15th. Re: Stanford Law Applicants c/o 2021
Am I the only one who submitted the application without the optional essay? I don't know how, but I completely missed it while I was filling out my application. I just found out about the prompts here on TLS..
SLS is my top choice of course. It's just that I haven't been paying much attention since I know my chances are not that great (172/3.96, KJD, no strong softs). Do you think I can still send in the optional essay? Already being a not-too-strong applicant, I don't want them to dismiss my file for not showing sufficient interest... Has anybody gone through this? Should I just give up hope..?
Went complete on 11/01. Yea it's been a while.. fml lol..

Thanks for the encouragement! Thinking I'm not the only one helps me calm my nerves. I'm now considering sending one via email - hope they don't notice my sloppiness..Platopus wrote:Relax, you are just as strong an applicant as anyone else. Fwiw, Dean Faye has mentioned that she appreciates applicants who are active participants in the process. She made the comment in reference to someone asking if it would be appropriate to send a "Why SLS" essay after not hearing anything for several months after sending in their app. So, they don't seem to mind people sending things in after submission for the purpose of demonstrating interest.dollarez wrote:Thanks for the encouragement! Thanks for the good vibes! I’ve pretty much talked myself into accepting that I won’t get a K-H offer. So if I do get one, it’ll be a really great surprise. And if I don’t, I at least (hopefully) won’t shed too many tears about it.InterLaw wrote:D Day for K-H folks!

Let’s hope that the first wave of SLS decisions comes out soon after the K-H notifications!

I recall that the timeline describes today as when you find out whether or not you’re a finalist. Meaning everyone should get an emailInterLaw wrote:Do you know if they send out e-mails to everyone or just to the 100 blessed ones?

Finalist == being selected for the program? Or just being shortlisted?ha8845 wrote:I recall that the timeline describes today as when you find out whether or not you’re a finalist.
