Just got mine! I was under the impression they needed my tax forms before they give out their aid offer but I guess not. I had just filled out the scholarship app form so far.AaronCarter wrote:Cornell is sending out financial aid emails today!
+1! Pleased with my offer but also slightly underwhelmed... Does Cornell offer non-need based full tuition scholarships? I have a full ride already at another T13 that I really like but I like Cornell a lot too.AaronCarter wrote:Cornell is sending out financial aid emails today!
Sorry about the offer not being as high as you would like, but if you have another t13 full ride, Cornell definitely plays ball on negotiations. Also, Cornell offers the Hughes Scholarship, which is a non-need full tuition scholarship.38981928 wrote:+1! Pleased with my offer but also slightly underwhelmed... Pretty sure this is a common line that schools include in rejection e-mails. At least, I recall Harvard including the same language many years ago.ltepen wrote:Also dinged today. Had to laugh at the transfer information. Basically them saying, "Hey, we don't like you this year. Maybe we still won't like you in a year! Also, just because we don't like you doesn't mean we don't think you'll succeed.

Same here!! Got a fairly insignificant amount (compared to the massive tuition). Wondering if you can still apply for Huges after you got your financial aid decision.chargers21 wrote:Sorry about the offer not being as high as you would like, but if you have another t13 full ride, Cornell definitely plays ball on negotiations. Everyone is automatically considered for the Hughes iirc. They select some from the pool of applicants and interview them again for the scholarship I thinkAlomeng wrote:Same here!! Cornell was the last school I got mine from too! It took like a week whereas I got every other school the next business day. Hang tight MikeyMikey wrote:so when tf do I get my status checker? how long does Cornell take to give you one? they are the only school that hasn't done so yet
This isn't correct, there is a separate application for Hughes, it requires a separate essaychargers21 wrote:Everyone is automatically considered for the Hughes iirc. Yes, but is every single admitted student able to apply for it, or do you have to be invited? I think chargers meant "everyone is automatically considered" for being invited, and you can apply only if invited, which would mean people who are asking on TLS whether they can still apply are out of luck.bas1 wrote:This isn't correct, there is a separate application for Hughes, it requires a separate essaychargers21 wrote:Everyone is automatically considered for the Hughes iirc. Just emailed the financial aid office. They said, "all JD applicants are eligible to apply."Lavitz wrote:Yes, but is every single admitted student able to apply for it, or do you have to be invited? Tbh, I'm not sure what the answer is nowadays, so I'm genuinely curious about it. In the old days, you had to be invited to apply for the highest form of scholarship.
Anyone have a suggestion?blackmamba8 wrote:For the scholarship form I can't decide if I should check both merit and merit/need, or just merit. I highly doubt that I'd get any need aid, but ya never know. If I check both would that affect any potential merit aid?
Yeah, that's what I was saying. Last cycle you had to be invited to apply. They might have changed it, thoughLavitz wrote:Yes, but is every single admitted student able to apply for it, or do you have to be invited? Interesting. In that case, I would guess the answer to the original question is that you can still apply for Hughes even after receiving an initial merit award, unless there was some sort of notice that you were waiving your right to apply for the Hughes if you submitted a scholarship application and received an initial merit award before the Hughes deadline.Alomeng wrote:Just emailed the financial aid office. How much of one’s stats plays into that? Like if you’re at median or below but accepted, are you less likely to get it?Lavitz wrote:Interesting. I really have no idea, especially now that they seem to be approaching it more holistically by allowing everyone to apply and submit an essay explaining how it would benefit them. But considering it's a full-ride and they previously invited only people with good stats, I would bet that being below both medians would make it very unlikely to get it.AaronCarter wrote:How much of one’s stats plays into that?
