Just got mine! I was under the impression they needed my tax forms before they give out their aid offer but I guess not. I had just filled out the scholarship app form so far.

+1! Pleased with my offer but also slightly underwhelmed... Does Cornell offer non-need based full tuition scholarships? I have a full ride already at another T13 that I really like but I like Cornell a lot too.

Sorry about the offer not being as high as you would like, but if you have another t13 full ride, Cornell definitely plays ball on negotiations. Also, Cornell offers the Hughes Scholarship, which is a non-need full tuition scholarship.

Pretty sure this is a common line that schools include in rejection e-mails. At least, I recall Harvard including the same language many years ago.

Same here!! Got a fairly insignificant amount (compared to the massive tuition). Wondering if you can still apply for Huges after you got your financial aid decision.

Everyone is automatically considered for the Hughes iirc. They select some from the pool of applicants and interview them again for the scholarship I think

This isn't correct, there is a separate application for Hughes, it requires a separate essay

Yes, but is every single admitted student able to apply for it, or do you have to be invited? I think chargers meant "everyone is automatically considered" for being invited, and you can apply only if invited, which would mean people who are asking on TLS whether they can still apply are out of luck.

Tbh, I'm not sure what the answer is nowadays, so I'm genuinely curious about it. In the old days, you had to be invited to apply for the highest form of scholarship.

Just emailed the financial aid office. They said, "all JD applicants are eligible to apply."

Anyone have a suggestion?

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Last cycle you had to be invited to apply. They might have changed it, though

Interesting. In that case, I would guess the answer to the original question is that you can still apply for Hughes even after receiving an initial merit award, unless there was some sort of notice that you were waiving your right to apply for the Hughes if you submitted a scholarship application and received an initial merit award before the Hughes deadline.

How much of one’s stats plays into that? Like if you’re at median or below but accepted, are you less likely to get it?

I really have no idea, especially now that they seem to be approaching it more holistically by allowing everyone to apply and submit an essay explaining how it would benefit them. But considering it's a full-ride and they previously invited only people with good stats, I would bet that being below both medians would make it very unlikely to get it.
