That's really odd, do you think you'll write a completely different why Duke considering you sent that in already or are you just going to extend it?

It was pretty strange. I already wrote my why duke and this was a bare bones version of it. I told them I was submitting an addendum further explaining my interest in Duke so I don't think I'm going to change it.

Yes. Duke has and will deny people who should get in numbers wise for a bad or halfhearted why duke essay. They do it every year. Given that Duke has the 3rd smallest class size in the top 10 law schools, the admissions staff actually has the opportunity to pick and choose a little more than other schools.

I was able to successfully solicit PT as well. Very relieved.

How long are people making their "Why Duke?" (or essay 1 or whatever)? I have like 3/4 of a page, wondering if it's too short.

Mine was 500 words, which is probably right at the upper maximum. If you have like 250-300 I'd say that's probably right at the sweet spot

I doubt it matters much as long as it's not 1 paragraph or longer than your PS

Also checking in. Duke has some awesome blockchain ties, which is super interesting to me (only school I've seen so far with any such courses on the matter). Also it's probably the best climate of any of the T13.

pls lsat gods let september go well

So the Duke "Why X", according to their website is more of a "Why Law?". Did you guys write explicitly about Duke? Or did you make the paragraph more of a personal statement about your desire to pursue a law degree, and why Duke is a good fit?

Personally, mine was definitely a "Why Duke". That being said, my PS focused a lot on "why law" and in my Why X I always spoke a lot about what I was looking for in a law school so it's possible they viewed that as answering the why law question?

To make a short answer long and then short again, I didn't attack the essay like it was a why law and all the advice given last year was similarly to focus on the school unless maybe you didn't talk about what was driving you to law in other places in your app

Good advice, thanks. I'll treat it as a "Why X" then.
