I’m sorry you got bad news. I honestly doubt it’s YP.

Are you a splitter though? If you really have a 177 and a 3.63, then, for Duke, isn't that a pretty traditional applicant considering you're over the 75th LSAT and within the middle 50% for GPA? Sorry, honestly just confused.

Got priority reserved, which makes sense given my right-at-median LSAT and well-below 25th GPA. Actually, I expected an immediate ding, so I guess this is preferable. Hopefully I can raise my GPA this semester to a 3.5 or 3.53 and get in after updating my file. Even if I don't get money (I won't and therefore probably won't attend Duke) it would be nice to know I could get in.

Yeah, this is where I was coming from. I'm thinking since you didn't write a Why Duke maybe it could be YP in the sense that they know you have credentials to go elsewhere and you didn't indicate any particular interest in Duke. Obviously your LSAT score is amazing. But I think with your numbers it's more likely they just didn't get a yay duke vibe (which is totally fine).

I only say this because we've seen several ppl with great numbers who were accepted via PT. I definitely don't have your amazing LSAT score (me = 171) but I have a 3.95, a PhD from Hopkins, and am Manager of Research in an AmLaw 50 firm, and they accepted me. I did write a Why Duke (I wrote one for every single non-Top-6 school). So...I just don't really see YP at play. But maybe I'm the one with delusions. It sounds like you don't really want to go there, so I wouldn't worry.

That’s the definition of YP.

Has the stats to go elsewhere+Doesn’t show enough interest in attending if accepted=waitlist

I don't know that I'd say that's the "definition" of YP. All schools are pretty upfront about weighting how excited an applicant is about the school, I think someone not getting in because the school doesn't think they want to attend is different from a school "protecting yield" by not admitting a student who's numbers are too high.

I guess the biggest difference is that YP applicants would be strong (almost guaranteed) candidates for significantly better schools, where as someone with competitive stats being watilisted because there wasn't enough documented commitment was just waitlisted.

I do think the two concepts are very similar, which leads to the general over exaggeration of the existence of YP, generally speaking though.

OP did get YPd though (gotchu bb ;))

Application went complete on 10/30 but is still not under review. I'm not PT or ED. Should I be worried?

Not PT or ED as well. I went complete around 10/16, and just went under review Monday (11/6). I bet you'll be fine and go under review in a week or so! Best of luck!

I'll be curious to see how quickly the non-PT decisions come back now that we're UR!

Last cycle I got PR with a lower LSAT score - I'm reapplying with a higher LSAT and still nothing. Should I just hang tight?

I just got my acceptance package from Duke (was accepted PT last Tuesday) in the mail and the package looks like it went through a war zone (lots of small rips and tears and creases in the paper)...is this normal? :?

THIS HAPPENED TO MINE TOO. Maybe the USPS has some beef against Duke? Still appreciated the swag, though.

Definitely the norm. Mine looked like hell last year and it only had to go from NC to VA.

This years looked good but I'm in Durham so I'm convinced if it leaves the city It'll look terrible. I assume the color printing of the cardboard is just a lowish quality
