I replied "$50-80k" to the poll but I'd like to add the (very important) asterisk that that is assuming that their LRAP/PSLF plan is not in any way affected by the current administration. If anything changes in that department I don't know what I'd do, as I only want PI.

Also, I asked about the Curriculum B thing on the GULC students thread (link in OP), they basically told me that it doesn't affect employment outcomes or whatever!

I doubt there are more than one or two GULC to Yale transfers every year. So maybe Curriculum B gives you a better chance than Curriculum A but you still are going to have to be top one or top two in the class which is ridiculous to bank on.ml0606148 wrote:I think it is more pedantic and that's probably why Yale likes itInterLaw wrote:Just discovered that there is a curriculum B, and it seems very interesting! I heard there is one transfer student to Yale from GULC Curriculum B each year to Yale Law School in two consecutive years. Given the tiny volume of Yale transfer students, the number is already very impressive.ball is life wrote:I doubt there are more than one or two GULC to Yale transfers every year. They didn't even give me a preliminary scholarship offer (only school not to) last year despite getting $ offers from basically everyone else ranging from Chicago all the way down to W&M. Will not be reapplying because of this. like wtf if y'all really wanted me, at least get your s%#$t together

There's no way they're desperate enough to increase yield that this becomes affordable, is there?

Checking in from last cycle. 171 3.4 with 120k in scholly. Originally 168 3.4 but retook June, increased from 45k-60-75-90-105-120 through several rounds of negotiation. PM me if you want more detail.Jack_Kelly wrote:

We have exactly the same stats as well as the same avatar. I likely will.88234 wrote:Checking in from last cycle. 171 3.4 with 120k in scholly. What I was trying to say is that this is pretty irrelevant because that one person in both years was almost certainly the top 1-3 students in the class. You can't rely on that and you definitely should not make your curriculum selection based on that.ml0606148 wrote:I heard there is one transfer student to Yale from GULC Curriculum B each year to Yale Law School in two consecutive years. Also from last cycle, 178/3.2 and had a similar experience (but without the killer retake! Yeah 88234!). Definitely ask for money early and often, there's money to be had if you keep at it.88234 wrote:Checking in from last cycle. 171 3.4 with 120k in scholly. When you're as awesome as you are, Govlife, retaking is a waste of time. Re: Georgetown University Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017/2018)
My point was that not all top 1-3 students in each law school get to transfer to Yale Law School given its tiny volume. The single fact that they have two top 1-3 students transferring to Yale Law School in consecutive years is already impressive enough.ball is life wrote:What I was trying to say is that this is pretty irrelevant because that one person in both years was almost certainly the top 1-3 students in the class. But I agree definitely it is not something you should take into consideration when you select your curriculum. All I was saying is that there might be some special qualities that Yale Law School likes about Curriculum B, but indeed we should not select Curriculum B simply because of that.

Would you mind sharing your numbers? Or a LSN account if you have it?
Also, why did you choose Curriculum B?

GULC was always my top choice and I was super concerned that they'd be stingy...the best advice I can give is to be persistent and deliberate in how you negotiate. I was originally placed on the "scholarship waitlist" (still such a weird concept to me) and ended up with 165k. Just remember, you literally have nothing to lose and thousands to gain when it comes to negotiating. Good luck this cycle, everyone!

So, for someone without any experience, negotiating a scholarship means just sending e-mails and answers to other e-mails asking for more money to attend?

Re: Georgetown University Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017/2018)
It varies based on the applicant but I did a mix of a) dropping in admissions during admitted students weekend to make my interest known (note that ASW is basically the only time I'd recommend showing up without an appointment); b) following up with specifics as to why I wanted GULC/DC (academic programs, professors, and personal reasons for wanting to stay in DC - it shows that if they offer you something you're likely to attend rather than using their offer to get money elsewhere and also shows what you plan on contributing to the campus environment); and c) making known the other offers from peer/higher ranked schools and even what waitlists you're on and willing to hold out for if you don't have a good scholarship offer.InterLaw wrote:Great job!!dc_diva wrote:GULC was always my top choice and I was super concerned that they'd be stingy...the best advice I can give is to be persistent and deliberate in how you negotiate. Definitely don't be afraid to be genuine if you're very passionate about GULC but don't get too frantic/needy/entitled...which sounds obvious but can be hard as it gets close to commitment deadlines.
