Top Law Schools

I went UR 1 on like 11/22 and UR 1.5 1/18 with no interview request as of yet. My LSAT is just below the 25th and GPA above 75th—UChi was a stretch, but at what point does UR 1.5 with no interview become a sign of an impending ding?

I had the same thing but I think it was actually UR2, not 1.5, because then I had a third UR with no interview and then WL. Also 75th LSAT below 25th GPA. Fingers crossed it's different for you tho!

PM me! There is a long, long list - not to do with employment outcomes, but, uh, when they say "where fun comes to die" they mean "where everyone comes to develop severe mental health issues" (literally everyone I know who ever went there developed a mental health issue while there).

This might be a dumb question, but to whom are you fellow waitlisted applicants addressing the waitlist LOCI (Admissions Office or Specific Person)?

To those who were waitlisted from ED - are you treating your LOCI as a 'Why Chicago?'. I never wrote one so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to write it as a traditional LOCI or a Why X, as the email suggests you can do the latter if you've never sent in one - but I feel like I need to address the fact that I got waitlisted?

All of that said, UChicago students are brilliant and deeply into the concept of learning. I loved my fellow students, a lot of the law school students I know also loved theirs, it's the administration that causes the headaches.

To add on to what I wrote above, there are all types of people here. I know people whose lives are wake up at 6am, study most of the day, sleep at midnight, repeat, but I also know people who spend at least a few night a week at the bars and don't do much on the weekends. There's a good portion that keeps their books at school and doesn't do work at home.

So, certain aspects are the same across undergrad and law - for example, SHS is SHS. I did also note my opinion is also based on conversations I've had with people at Chicago Law.

I do agree that a large aspect of it is just Chicago - for example, something I do warn undergrads about and that I think is generally worth considering if you're not from the Midwest is how dark and cold it is (this messed a lot of people up, including me) - because Chicago winters are their own beast and I think that's something to think really deeply about if you've never experienced them, because they are truly something else. Chicago is very segregated, but the University was actually fairly instrumental in creating the particular segregation around Hyde Park, and that culture hasn't really fully disappeared. This isn't to say other schools aren't racist or segregated, but Chicago is particularly bad, and those are all problems to consider when deciding on a school.

So I agree with all of that - the problem is, freedom of speech isn't really given equally on campus. One of the big problems with this is that a member of the staff of Booth didn't want to work on this project for freedom of speech reasons, and she was told that because she was staff and not a professor, that her desire to recuse herself from this particular event could be grounds for her firing. (But if she was a professor, it wouldn't be, which is kinda messed up.) The University has also blocked certain speakers from coming in, particularly anti-Israel speakers, and has cracked down really hard on student protest. I completely agree on the importance of freedom of speech - what I find frustrating is that the University doesn't actually completely walk the walk.

No real opinion on this from me, whether you want to engage with what's going on at the undergrad is entirely up to you. I'm by no means defending what tinycat has a problem with, just saying that my time is spent studying, at home, or with friends when I'm not in class, so I mostly ignore things that are not in my sphere right now.

None of this is unique to UChicago. During my time there, Penn undergrads frequently made identical claims about the school's high pressure culture and racist attitude towards Philadelphia. Pretty sure you're gonna find that stuff (or at least people who will allege it) any prestige university in an urban setting.

Went under review today. Didn't know Adcom works on the weekend.

The Chicago bashing is tiresome. This is supposed to be an admissions thread. Personally I'd rather focus on myself than point fingers at others (administration, other students, etc.)

Had my interview recently. Was a really good experience. Fingers crossed!

Anyone get any updates recently? My application was complete 2/3 and interviewed on 3/16. Is there a general timeline for when they get back post interview? The deadline for other schools start as early as the 15th and I was debating reach out and asking for an update.
