Got an email from Dean Faulk saying I was accepted. Didn't need to interview since we met at the D.C. Forum in July!

Hey all, I've been doing some research but not finding clear answers so I'm turning to this thread. Does UVA typically interview everyone? I'm not as familiar with their admissions process, and I live in rural Arkansas where I can't easily get to forums/admissions fairs. I applied 9/10 (non ED). Should I be expecting an invitation to interview or just obsessively refreshing the status checker as with every other school?

Everyone who is admitted has an interview (or a prior meeting with Dean Faulk), so be on the lookout!

Received my invitation to interview ten minutes after I posted that. Hopefully this is a good sign!!

It is! Most (but not all) people who get interviewed this early get in. It seems like more borderline people don't really hear much at this stage.

Crowdsourcing! For Section 12 Question 1 in "Activities and Interests", did people just copy/paste their resume or write out more of a narrative? Not sure what approach to take here.

I took it as more of a personal question; they already have your resume so I talked about non-work related stuff I'm involved in/passionate about. Recreational soccer, for example. Involvement in my local horror genre fans club. That sort of thing.

congratulations to all you who have been admitted already. I cannot, however, say that this does not make me a bit nervous. I am taking the LSAT in Dec, and was planning to apply (according to results) in late December, beginning jan. But seeing how many are already admitted now in September, I am wondering if there will any seats left to fill. What do you guys think?

While I think applying early is definitely an advantage, I would not be too concerned with there not being any seats left by December/January. The schools are very cognizant of the on-going nature of the test and applications, and want to maximize their high scorers so they leave room accordingly. I would assert that as long as your numbers are in the appropriate ranges, there will definitely be ample opportunity for admission.

I too was accepted after my skype interview with Dean Faulk yesterday morning. Does anyone know when the school sends out their scholarship offer? Is it a part of the official package that gets mailed out, or is it at a later period?

Thanks!

A few people get it with the packet or soon afterwards (mostly Dillards) but the scholarship committee does the bulk of their work in January, awarding most schollies in February/early March.

So UVA Activities & Interests section...

I don't have any significant extra curriculars to speak of. I have spent my undergrad years working three jobs while studying full-time and attempting to maintain some semblance of a social life, plus going to a somewhat intense amount of counseling for my PTSD/anxiety/depression. I'm not trying to make excuses - I could have made time for extracurriculars, but they weren't high on my priority list.

So I guess my questions are a) am I screwed? UVA is my dream school, #1, I'd ED if I didn't have financial considerations. b) how would you handle this on the application? write an addendum type statement in the box stating work and school took priorty? attach a full length addendum? (I find it hard to believe that'd be necessary)

For activities/interests sections I just put down interests, like soccer, books I like to read etc. If you have actual work experience on your resume you should be fine.

This will probably out me to a bunch of people but I'd like to give a shout out to the amazing Admissions office and student ambassadors that I met on my visit. They really went above and beyond in accommodating me and really making me feel welcome. The visit is 100% worth it, and they offer a $250 stipend to admitted students for both admitted students day and another separate visit. The entire atmosphere of the school was extremely upbeat and collegiate (did not get a fratty vibe that some people complain about) and really seems like somewhere I'd like to spend 3 years and be proud of graduating from. Really, really hope financial aid works out!

PS: Congrats to everyone who got in this week! I'll see you all at admitted students day in March!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
