You could have gone UR2 (or whatever UR2 signifies - a human looking at the file, maybe?) the same day you applied, and you didn't know it, because the date didn't change. I'm not sure that's any kind of improvement, but I'm just throwing it out there. I went UR2 the morning after my app was received, so they might sometimes get to it on the same day.zachbp13 wrote:We have similar numbers and I have been UR1 since 10/23. So it really looks like there's no real significance to UR1/2/3.virginia_direwoolf wrote:

After months of silence, I just got an invitation to attend a UVA-only reception in DC.
Has anyone been to one? And, is this a good sign? I know it can't be compared to the dinners, but I would need to take some time off work to attend so I am trying to assess if it will be worth spending the political capital.

I feel like if they invited you to this, it would reflect poorly if you didn't go.AlPastor wrote:After months of silence, I just got an invitation to attend a UVA-only reception in DC.

I'm going to this - just got the invite too (and in the same boat that I went complete about a month ago and haven't heard a thing since). I wondered the same thing...how much do they plan on paying attention to who goes or not? I don't really know.AlPastor wrote:After months of silence, I just got an invitation to attend a UVA-only reception in DC.

I think if you felt like you just couldn't swing it, I would email admissions and say how thrilled you were to get the invite, but that you just couldn't get the time off work. Maybe asking if there will be any other events. Then if they ARE noticing, you showed your enthusiasm.

I'm not sure it would reflect poorly. The admissions team are all super nice in my experience and very understanding that applicants have their own schedules. (If I recall, someone further back in this thread couldn't make a dinner and made plans to meet the morning after.)Ntp73821 wrote:I feel like if they invited you to this, it would reflect poorly if you didn't go.AlPastor wrote:After months of silence, I just got an invitation to attend a UVA-only reception in DC.

That said, if you want to go to UVA, and you can possibly make it, you should absolutely go.

Similar #s to you both & I have been UR1 since 10/20. I think they might be waiting re: YP, but I'm hoping they'll get back soon. I added a "Why UVA?" essay to my file last week, so I'm hoping that might speed the process up a little...zachbp13 wrote:We have similar numbers and I have been UR1 since 10/23. One quick thing I just realized which likely means nothing....my status checker date updated today. So maybe they *are* paying close attention to this as a sort of interview-we're-not-calling-an-interview. Or, you know. Not.Bush v. Thanks everyone....
I'll try and talk to my boss today, it's going to come down to whether I can skip an important event or not. I hope to see some of you there.
EDIT: Also living/working in the DC area

UVA is such a crazy reach for me, but I was invited to this reception as well, so I am sure as hell going. It is going to be tough because I am NOT a social butterfly... unstructured networking events are my worst nightmare, but then again, this will be my first one, so I am hoping it won't be quite as bad as I am imagining. Any other total introverts going?

Interviewed recently and was admitted/received a Dillard - had never heard it pronounced and honestly had no idea what he meant by it so i probably looked like an idiot when he brought it up. Can confirm Dean Faulk is the man. UVA is my 1 or 2 choice (just need to make it down to charlottesville soon) so feeling really good about it!

Re: UVA c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
I have no clue why I did. I am a good writer but my numbers are laughable for UVA. I can't help but want to do everything I can to get in, but even if I did I can't imagine getting money, which will make it a hard sell against my other offers. And on top of that, I really don't think I can get in. Are you close to D.C.? It could be location based, because I live right outside the city.wannabegenius wrote: I would be in the same boat except that I didn't get an invite

Re: UVA c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
My numbers are also laughable for UVA but my personal statement turned out better than I thought it would. So pretty much the same situation. I am not near D.C. but I am near Boston and NYC and I'm fairly certain that they did recent interviews in those cities. I wasn't invited to those.somewhereclassof2021 wrote:I have no clue why I did. Re: UVA c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
Try to just think of it as a great opportunity to practice. I am by nature an introvert but through work have really had the chance to practice putting on my chatty persona. I think it's an important skill for anyone in this field and it gets easier with time - you have to learn to market yourself and this will be a chance to hone those skills. Then you go home and have a drink and decompress from being 'on' all night.somewhereclassof2021 wrote:UVA is such a crazy reach for me, but I was invited to this reception as well, so I am sure as hell going.
