special softs? urm?
Yeah military officer. But nothing extraordinary. Applied in November.
Hey, me too. Are you doing FLEP by chance?
No. My wife wants a career and it has become abundantly clear that she can't have that in the Army. Although I may try to go reserve JAG. Are you doing FLEP?
Yes, but based on the restrictions I have all but given up on Harvard. Coming from overseas, so I'll probably have orders set before the first round of acceptances off the w/l.

What's the wifey do?
Army? So they restrict the schools you can attend? She does public relations for a non profit.

I haven't. Will this week though.
Waited until this week, but because waiting on substantive resume update that I wanted to be able to include.
what minimal thing qualifies as substantive update to warrant loci?
no idea what to write as have no update. even if there was one it couldn't be more than 2 sentences.
how much time it takes to write one? anyone not writing any, is it necessary?

I think this is all subjective, no...? If you think you can write a letter that will let them know something important about you/your life/your candidacy that you'll feel good about sending, I say go for it. How long that takes is imo impossible to say. Personally I spent a few days going back and forth and having friends/family provide feedback, because I was anxious about it.

I guess based on last year's precedent, do people think we'll start to see activity (e.g. JS1 invites) starting next Friday or early the week thereafter?

Agree it is subjective; I had a paper I was working on that finally got published (well, submitted; public on ssrn for now). Figured that would be solid.

FWIW, based on my reading of the waitlist FAQ, it's worth sending in a letter even if all it does is express continued interest. If it comes down to a tie-breaker, I think they really do want to know who is truly interested. Then again, I don't know how many people do it, and how much it will actually stand out. Or if it's more, you stand out if you don't.

Precedent is JS1s go out a few business days after the May 1st deadline. I wouldn't be surprised for a Thursday or Friday wave.
Damn it's crazy to think that we could have an indication next week.

If anyone is interested, I posted thread trying to preemptively figure out the grant aid numbers over in the financial aid forum. Also, any feedback or insight would be cool if you've got it to give.

Anyone who's visited HLS post-waitlist? Wondering if there's a sign-in sheet like in other law schools

Didn't know this was a thing, so I did not check for it when I was there.

I visited pre-waitlist and there was no sign-in sheet. I doubt it would be different now. If you're already up there its sort of interesting to see the campus and get a sense of the area, but there were no official things to do and they didn't keep a record.

Do those admitted off the waitlist pay a seat deposit like a typical admit?

Correct, they just have an enrollment form you have to submit. I did confirm with a friend starting in the fall that the enrollment deadline for admitted students was May 1, though.

is staying on the waitlist binding in a way that could get me in trouble by declining an offer later? I am about 95% sure that I would accept an offer off the waitlist but that's a decision I don't feel 100% comfortable making right now and I am concerned about whether this is truly binding

I guess my question would be...what can they do to you? like not let you go to the school you said you won't go to? my friends who got in off WL said they got 24 hours to choose. it's still a choice, and you can't for-real-100% commit to it until and if it's real in the moment

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
