Re: Santa Clara Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
hey, so I got accepted in November with a scholarship I'm pretty happy with. I visited Santa Clara and really love the campus and area and fortunately will be able to have free housing with my boyfriend's family. However, Santa Clara's drop in ranking is concerning me a bit. Have you seen any effects from it? Would you recommend going here? I've heard great things from most people about it but the internet can just be ruthless so I would love an honest opinion from someone who actually attended. Thanks!MsAvocadoPit wrote:2016 grad here - feel free to ask me any questions =)

Does anyone know when and how the Dean's and IP Scholarships are determined? Has anyone who's been accepted received these scholarships yet?

SCU's ranking drop is an effect of their job placement since US News started counting that a few years ago. LST shows 39% of the class of 2015 working in a JD-required job, and only 14% of the class landed biglaw (100+ firms) or a federal clerkship. Also, keep in mind that a significant portion of that 14% is PT students who already have a job lined up (with their tech company or law firm) and/or "IP-secure" patent bar-eligible students, so that overestimates the employment outlook for an average student who is not in one of those groups.jordanmb wrote:hey, so I got accepted in November with a scholarship I'm pretty happy with. I want to negotiate but not sure how. Have you tried emailing them? I've received the Emory scholarship but am looking to get more as I am both above 75th percentile.OaklandJD2016 wrote:Anyone have any success negotiating scholarships with SCU?

Been waiting since mid January. My LSAT is 75 percentile and GPA is under 25 percentile. Seems rediculous that they make you wait over four months. Hopefully decisions start flowing in soon.

Been complete since 3/2. GPA under 25, LSAT over 75. have heard absolutely nothing. even wrote a "why santa clara". i'm in a t2 now with a massive scholarship, so i'm kinda over it at this point. it's crazy this school was like top 6 for me at one point, but there lack of communication is a huge turn off.

I might e-mail them to see when I can expect a decision.
Edit: Well their app deadline was yesterday, so I think we can expect decisions to start coming in now.
