Re: Villanova C/O 2020 Applicants (2016 - 2017)
Hmmm... Last cycle, I got in with a $35k/yr ship. I turned it down and worked for another year before applying again this cycle. I revamped and improved my personal statement, but have the same stats (I retook the LSAT, but actually went down a few points on the retake). I decided that if I was given an equivalent ship this year, I would probably accept, as I want my total debt to be under 50k.
All-in-all, I must have ticked them off when I declined the offer last cycle because they waitlisted me this time. To go from an 80%+ ship to a waitlist, with the same numbers??? Doesn't make any sense. Oh well, no biggie. Best of luck everyone!

Did anyone not submit the "optional statement" that is recommended but optional? Submitting a diversity statement so they have another essay to base my writing off of but don't know if I need to submit the optional one as well. Anyone?

I did not submit any additional essays besides my personal statement.

I got a call today! Finally, although I did apply in November so I guess they had to make me wait a little longer.

You definitely got yield protected. Write them a LOCI saying how eager you'd be to attend, and I'd bet you'd get off with $$$bmathers wrote:Hmmm... Last cycle, I got in with a $35k/yr ship. OK, I sent in my LOCI they want to see my other offers. Yield protecting sucks, especially since Villanova is my top choice out of the PA schools (minus UPenn). Although, my full ride at Dickinson would be hard to pass up unless Nova also offered a full now

Accepted via phone call last week and received full scholly via email on 01/18. Genuinely considering Nova over Temple since I haven't even heard back from the latter even though I was accepted and received a full scholly last time I applied. Oh well!

Applied late, so I am still waiting to hear back. I have some questions if anyone from Philly could answer.
Can anybody shed some light on just how far away Villanova is to Center City? I understand that it is on the Mainline, but I have absolutely no experience with any sort of rail system. Is living in downtown a viable option with commuting to the law school?
Definitely out of my element with big cities if you cant tell
Also congrats to all accepted!!

Villanova is about 25 minutes via train from Center City Philadelphia. It's definitely commutable. That said, the trains run only once an hour starting at 7 pm and then they stop running a little past midnight. This might be slightly annoying if you have an evening class. Though luckily the station is right by the law school.fattsdomino wrote:Applied late, so I am still waiting to hear back. I have some questions if anyone from Philly could answer.

Another option is to live in West Philly which is really cheap and filled with young people. There's also ample parking and easy access to Center City (only about 5-10 minutes via trolley/subway depending on how far west you are. It would be a pretty quick drive and a slightly longer train ride.

Villanova is approximately 30 minutes away from Center City via the Paoli-Thorndale line. It is definitely viable living downtown and commuting to the law school, depending on where you live. If you live in Center City close to Jefferson, Suburban, or 30th Street Station it'll be easy but if you have to walk or take the subway to a train station that'll definitely increase your commute time. Ardmore, Narberth, Wynnewood, and Bryn Mawr are small towns along the regional rail line for Villanova and they have affordable apartments in those towns but I've looked into renting houses in those areas and the prices can be ridiculous.fattsdomino wrote:Applied late, so I am still waiting to hear back. I was looking online and saw that Villanova is offering interview invites, have any of you gotten them and do you know if it is a good/bad sign?

Been in review since 12/7 with I thought decent numbers. Just below LSAT median and well above GPA median. Getting nervous anyone else been waiting for a long time?

I was in review since 12/7 and didn't hear back until Friday at like 4 pm. I wouldn't worry just yet.Lasow wrote:Been in review since 12/7 with I thought decent numbers. Just below LSAT median and well above GPA median. Getting nervous anyone else been waiting for a long time?

I'm also considering Villanova as Temple didn't give me anything. I'm pretty excited about it though, their employment stats are just slightly higher than Temple's right now.m1304 wrote:congrats, me too! highly considering villanova after not getting as much from temple.taxman14 wrote:scholly info via mail - $133k full tuition

How long did it take for you to hear back once you were in review? I've heard back from everywhere except Nova so I'm getting a bit anxious!phillygirl77 wrote:I'm also considering Villanova as Temple didn't give me anything.
