How generous is UCI being with their scholarships this year?

Not very. Already received higher offers from schools ranked 10-13 spots higher._sendnudes wrote:How generous is UCI being with their scholarships this year?

Received my acceptance packet in the mail today with a 20K/year scholarship offer . Considering the OOS tuition in pretty steep, I think this is where UCI and I go our separate ways.

Also waitlisted via snail mail.
Looking at LSN and the TLS forums, UCI doesn't accept too many waitlisters When they do, it is definitely not someone with my stats.

Went to UCI for undergrad, still in the general OC area.
Living on campus is fine, but can be expensive. If you are willing to commute around 15-20 minutes, you can live in tustin/santa ana, and the rent is cheaper and usually you are in a nicer living situation.
You are also near Newport Beach, which is the best bang for its buck. You are living next to the beach, for about the same cost of what it would be to live on campus. (at least this was the case for undergrad, not sure re grad housing). Its about 15 minutes away from campus, so its not that bad of a drive.
The school itself is fine. The law school is near the student center (kind of), and everything is accessible through ring road.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
From my understanding (current 2L), the 2.5 is what you need to maintain to avoid academic probation/graduate. I am fairly certain this has been in place for the past couple of years. Here is the language from the Academic Rules:snowball17 wrote:For those of you who received scholly, is there a GPA stipulation attached? I thought UCI does not offer conditional scholarships, but my scholarship letter states that a GPA of 2.5 or above is needed to maintain the scholarship
So in other words, if you have a 2.5 you have more to worry about than just your scholarship.Effective for the class entering in or after August 2015:
A student who has a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.5 at the end of his or her first year at the School of Law or at the end of any semester thereafter shall be deemed to be on academic probation. The student shall be academically dismissed from the School of Law unless after an additional semester he or she has a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The Assistant Dean for Student Services may extend this time period for good cause for one additional semester.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
This!!! One of the big reasons I'm seriously considering UCI is that the rent for graduate apartments is DIRT cheap for Irvine. Look around, you will not find a studio/1BR:B for less than $1500ish, and that's on the rare side.snowball17 wrote:I would just like to add that UCI's graduate housing is surprisingly affordable! A room in a two bedroom apartment costs about $600-700 (utilities included).vho1791 wrote:All good, such is life.theboysarebackintown wrote:Sorry about the waitlist! Apartments in Irvine are super expensive. There are lots of new luxury apartments around town, but nothing too affordable for students. UCI housing is definitely the most affordable.charles117 wrote:is it cheaper to get on campus housing or just try for an apartment? do you need a car to get around?nkayyy wrote:Just submitted my SIR...I'm gonna be an Anteater!

And yes, you definitely need a car. There is a limited amount of public transportation on campus and around Orange County, but it's predominately a car culture just like the rest of Southern California.

Re: UC Irvine c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I'm so torn!! Right now I live with my mom on the other side of Irvine. It's only about a 15-minute drive and it would definitely be nice to save money on housing. At the same time, I don't want to feel too disconnected from campus and my classmates. I've heard nothing but good things about the on-campus housing, and if I was moving from another city I would opt for it without hesitation. I'm planning to spend a day walking around Verano and Palo Verde sometime soon, so I'll let you guys know how that goes!snowball17 wrote:Yay!!! So Jealous that your cycle is already over! Do you plan on living on campus? I've been looking at housing options..Verano & Palo Verde both look pretty tempting.nkayyy wrote:Just submitted my SIR...I'm gonna be an Anteater!
