UC Irvine c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)

Post by cyclawps » Wed Nov 16, 2016 5:02 pm

I hear UC Irvine plans to release some admissions decisions before Thanksgiving. I didn't see a thread for UC Irvine, and I thought I'd start it. Who else is waiting on a decision?

Thank you! I am also waiting. They've been so quiet, so I hope before thanksgiving is right!

Their 500 word limit on the PS is a real pain. None of the other schools I'm applying to have that strict a limit; I've given up on retooling my current PS and am probably gonna have to write out a new one.

At least the Why UCI will be easy since it's my alma mater. Would be nice to see Aldrich Park again.

Can we ask you a question for the benefit of all, rather than in a PM? What has been your favorite part about UC Irvine Law? Are you attempting to win a clerkship position (or have you won one already)?

I don't mind, but I don't want to monopolize the wrong thread. I did start this thread a while back http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4&t=252070, maybe you'd like to take this there?

If not, I'll answer briefly,

1. Yes, you can, but see above.
2. The environment. It was great for learning, networking, and career prospects.
3. Not attempting to win a clerkship right now as I'm currently employed in government. But a significant group of UCI students do gun for and get judicial clerkships.

Good luck!

Same. Looks like the intel I got from the UCI representative at the LSAC Forum was optimistic. Sorry for the false hope :(

I've applied. It's a reach for me, but I'm optimistic.

When did they start doing interviews?! And why haven't I received an invite?! Bye bye my chances of acceptance

I'm 100% sure it's because I'm a super splitter. I wasn't aware of interviews they did before today either. But the email was from a law.uci.edu account, so I'm sure it's legitimate.

I don't mean to call BS on this, but a friend of mine contacted admissions and they flat out denied ever doing interviews as part of their admissions process. So for those hoping to get an interview invite, don't wait up.

I think UCI Law could deny ever doing interviews as part of their admissions process, then invite people to interview immediately afterward, and still not contradict themselves. This cycle seems to be a bit of a shift for UCI with respect to the admissions timeline; it may represent a shift in their evaluation process as well. Furthermore, the admissions representative I spoke to in person told me to expect decisions before Thanksgiving. I haven't seen any evidence on TLS or LSN that UCI issued decisions on that timeline.

zot1, can you give us some more context on the call your friend made, specifically when it was made and whether the UCI admissions office was speaking only about past cycles? Thanks for relaying what your friend heard.

Call was made this morning. Question was are you doing any interviews as part of your admissions process. Answer was no we don't ever do interviews.

Could this be a secret interview? Sure, why not?

But my point was to get other hopefuls from freaking out because they didn't get interview invites.

I don't know what to tell you, except that I'll know more after Monday. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rich, you don't have to tell me anything. As I mentioned before, I was doing this as a courtesy to prevent other applicants from freaking out about not getting an interview.

Good luck on your interview!
