Yeah I drove up from PDX to do some apartment hunting, wound up eating lunch in the law building alone and there he was, flitting around his arms laden with study material.

How did you identify him?! Did his MCMAND forehead tattoo give him away?

He was actually doing the "mcmand does the sloppy swish" in the library.

He did this when I met him too - but extra creepily and with long flowing hair.

Let me know when you're in town again if you want to grab coffee or something!

I came across a statistic last night that said Seattle is the fastest growing city in the country. Apparently the city currently ranks anywhere from 3rd-10th nationally in economic prosperity, depending on the metrics used in the measurement. It's actually pretty difficult to count of the number of cranes if you're looking at the skyline. Hopefully the growth continues so we can ride the wave.

Yeah, although I heard they didn't serve alcohol at the ASW Mixer. If this is a dry mixer, I may be forced to withdraw and abandon my deposit.

They promised us "hors d'oeuvres and refreshments."

I'd be down to grab a few drinks with TLSers

6 mm annealed laminated glass? I'd be more worried about a bookshelf falling on me.

the wiki pages says it has 47,000 SF of glass! I'm no expert (architects are notorious for designing structurally impossible things) but I would imagine the concrete and steel beam system would absorb the horizontal force of an earthquake. Vertical forces typically aren't calculated bc people assume the weight of the building would resist it. And the glass curtain wall has a semi-rigid connection that would allow for movement between the structure and the curtain wall panel, maybe 1/2" or so of clearance. Hope we never have to experience it.

The biggest concern is vertical force in Seattle though, because of our high risk for megaquakes and transverse waves. Can you provide us an analysis of how Gates Hall will stand up in a 9.0+ quake from the Cascadia subduction zone?

(Jk i'm trying to be difficult. Although if you actually do know the answer that would be cool.)
Sure it's the ground acceleration minus the resistance of the soil....jk jk I have no idea. I just know the building is supposed to remain upright until everyone can evacuate.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
