Just wanted to confirm that nobody has successfully negotiated scholarship with Vandy? They were serious about the "we don't match scholarship"?

Honest question, is it worth emailing Vandy to let them know that, while I'm not trying to coerce them in any way, I'm going to be off the grid all of next week and thus that if if I don't hear from them this week there's just no way that I'd be able to consider any offer from them? PLEASE DON'T QUOTE.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between being placed in the "Hold Category" at Vanderbilt and being waitlisted?

I was just put on hold via e-mail. It says in the e-mail that applicants on hold will be given first consideration for any places that may be available after the first deposit deadline. Can someone on the waiting list confirm this language was not in their correspondence?

Status checker says "continued review" for me, maybe it's just an update that they're waiting to see how their numbers for the class shake out?

My understanding is that Vandy works like other T20 schools in this respect. Your application is still being considered but they need to take a look at initial yield, etc., before making a final call. The waitlist would indicate you're in a pool of candidates they can pull from if needed to fill out the class later on. A hold is better than being waitlisted at this point, generally.

I was waitlisted yesterday as an above median applicant and it specifically stated that I was waitlisted and not held. Also worth noting that I applied in November and was placed on hold against my request for my Feb LSAT score, so I was taken out of review until March. Not big on Vandy because of the slapdash way they handled my app when I was genuinely interested in attending

I need to stop obsessing, but FWIW:

I have a 164 LSAT, so I sorted LSN submissions by LSAT score and went to the 164s. There were around 50 164s. Of those 164s, there were only 2 rejections, and those were clear GPA outliers.

There were 10 acceptances. Every acceptance has gone to someone with a 3.7 or higher, and most significantly higher, in the high 3.8s or 3.9s. There are 7 waitlists. Over half of the group of 164 applicants are left pending.

If you look up to the 165s, you'll see that a much higher percentage of decisions have been made one way or the other. I very much think it's possible that Vandy has an unofficial hold for the majority of applicants around the 164 line with unremarkable GPA and are going to see how their class fills out prior to deciding what to do with these. This is why there are so few rejections; they're holding onto people in that range until they know more.

So all the 164s out there, we may be waiting some time yet.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
