All you have to do to be considered is submit your app before January 10th, correct?

There's a special app for the Law Scholars Merit Award, but yes, that (and the rest of your "normal" application) have to be submitted by January 10th in order to be considered for it.

Does anyone know how competitive/numbers-based it is? I'm above 75th for GPA but hovering around median for LSAT, with strong softs. Not trynna waste my time, but also don't wanna pass up $$$

I received the award (alum so I'm a few years out from the application process), but I don't know anyone else's numbers with any degree of accuracy. I can say that typically people who get the law scholar turn down higher ranked schools to take it. I've seen T6, H, etc. Softs are probably as important as numbers because of how few they give out vs. how many people with T6 numbers apply, but there's no clear pattern to what softs they look for. And not everyone who gets it has T6 numbers (I didn't).

Sorry for the completely unhelpful response, but you should just go ahead and apply for it. It doesn't take much time.

edit: also, in case it gets lost in earlier posts, I'm a recent alum and will answer any questions you have.

Checking in! I'm from TN so Vandy has always been a top choice for me. My GPA sucks but I just got way above 75% on my LSAT so fingers crossed :D

Be ready to answer "Why law?" and "Why Vandy?". You should tailor your questions around your goals/interests. Though I think it's good to ask the alum about their job search post-grad, particularly if they're working in the same region you'd like to work in after school. I think the best thing you can do is be relaxed and personable; you're basically having a conversation with someone about their law school experience while they pitch you on Vandy. It's fun.

I just want to reiterate that the level of Vandy's chill is right up there with UVA.

Anyone know how long it typically takes to hear back if you're above both 75ths?

Have you already done your alumni interview? Several of us here have interviewed, but still no news. On Vanderbilt's status checker, it mentions that September and October applicants will usually hear back by December, but here's to hoping they'll start releasing decisions soon...
If you go to previous Vanderbilt c/o pages, I think they typically send out the first wave of acceptance around the 2nd or 3rd week of November.

Are you guys keeping your Why Vanderbilt addenda, if you're writing one, to one page?

FWIW Last year I actually had to email my interviewer because my stuff didn't seem to be received. It turns out he forget to send it in and my email reminded him.

Interviewed in September with an adcom so it seems there wouldn't be any delay in 'sending stuff' but no change either. After reading last year's thread I think the status might not change until there's a decision.

My interviewer told me she "put in a good word for [me] with Vanderbilt" on 10/17 and I haven't seen a status change yet, for whatever that's worth. I'm assuming that means she sent them whatever stuff they need post interview.

Do you remember if your status changed after your interview stuff was processed?
I think my app changed from incomplete -> complete but I do not recall. Either that or a date update, maybe.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
