I got an extension on the WUSTL seat deposit till the 15th luckily. So I have till then to decide. I do wonder if there's a chance I would qualify for some need based aid that would close that gap. But I'm not quite sure yet.

They asked me where I plan on going and how much money I'll be getting but I'm still waiting to figure that out so.... I guess I'll just reply in a week or so? Lol
Good luck everyone!

Anyone still waiting to hear back their admission decision still and also applied for the David J. Epstein program? has anyone else been complete since around October?

Still under review and gunning for the Epstein program, but I've only been complete since 2/2.

Any recent admits have a timeline on how quickly after their acceptance call they received their scholarship information, and whether it was by email or USPS? I got accepted via phone on Thursday (complete 2/3) and am very excited, but really need to get the financials sorted out to really begin considering UCLA.

Not a recent admit, but my scholarship came via email. I don't see why they'd switch to snail mail if time is of the essence.rozes wrote:Any recent admits have a timeline on how quickly after their acceptance call they received their scholarship information, and whether it was by email or USPS? Many thanks! I only ask because Dean Schwartz said on the phone "receive your letters tomorrow" (indicating Friday), but I received nothing in my email, and I don't have any additional notifications on my mailings in the status checker (nor has that been updated). Maybe a quick email to the admissions office is warranted...if only to ensure that the acceptance call wasn't actually a dream and really did happen...Rigo wrote:Not a recent admit, but my scholarship came via email. Check your promotions folder first. For some reason all my UCLA emails got sent there.rozes wrote:Many thanks! Dean S hasn't been that on top of things or given accurate dates and figures IME so maybe they're just backed up and busy. Doesn't hurt to reach out tomorrow.

Also, it will almost certainly be via email.

It's really gonna come down to UCLA and another school for me, anything preventing me from double depositing? I know I'll lose the $, but I still have to hear back from the other school about scholarship $, plus it'll give me some more time to decide. Just want to make sure that what I'm doing is ethical. Please don't quote.

Read the terms of the deposit. I'm not sure what UCLA says specifically but people double deposit in general all the time and it's nbd.

42.72% biglaw+fedclerk for those not wanting to whip out a calculator.
Down 2.35% from last year.

Is the unstated assumption that biglaw + fedclerk is what everyone wants to do and thereby superior to the other categories?

well they're probably at least more competitive to get into. to call them superior is a judgement call thoughcalmenda wrote:Is the unstated assumption that biglaw + fedclerk is what everyone wants to do and thereby superior to the other categories?

It's a good proxy for placement power.calmenda wrote:Is the unstated assumption that biglaw + fedclerk is what everyone wants to do and thereby superior to the other categories?
But really, biglaw is the path of least resistance for law students and pretty much the only way to effectively tackle massive debts.

Not necessarily. There are certain PI jobs that are just as competitive to get as biglaw or fedclerk, if not more so.calmenda wrote:Is the unstated assumption that biglaw + fedclerk is what everyone wants to do and thereby superior to the other categories?
BL + FC is just an easy way to get an idea of how well a school places student into strong outcomes, as both of those generally require good grades/school performance. I'm not sure there's an easy way to distinguish elite PI jobs from more common ones, so those aren't really taken into account.

BigLaw and Fed are very competitive. No doubt about that.
Employment numbers reflect choices students make. There are students who could work in BigLaw or become federal clersk who choose to work in public interest, government, academia etc.
Example: https://law.ucla.edu/faculty/faculty-pr ... -horowitz/
"Horowitz is a 2001 graduate of the UCLA School of Law, where she was an articles editor of the UCLA Law Review and finished first in her class."
We can look at GPA/LSAT for indicators of a class' strength but the choices people make post-grad are more complicated than "I could work at Skadden, I will work at Skadden."

Yeah but people at all law schools opt out of OCI for PI. It's still a good metric to compare schools.

I like to think it means one less person at OCI targeting a firm I'd want to work for.Rigo wrote:lol fuck skadden. The word on the street is that Skadden LA is fucking awful, but I guess $180k is $180k.Gitaroo_Dude wrote:I like to think it means one less person at OCI targeting a firm I'd want to work for.Rigo wrote:lol fuck skadden.
