You have to keep in mind that UCLA has a much lower tuition rate at about 52k as opposed to the other schools. So I would say 110k at UCLA is equivalent to a 125k offer.Rigo wrote:Possible, sure. Visiting on Wednesday next week. Very excited about it. If it wasn't so expensive compared to a few other options I'd probably already have my deposit in.

+1. For example, USC's tuition is 55k more over 3 years.AlexanderJordan wrote:You have to keep in mind that UCLA has a much lower tuition rate at about 52k as opposed to the other schools. I've done the math and USC needs a $40k higher scholarship than UCLA to be equal cost if you assume in-state at UCLA 2L ad 3L. The difference is much lower if you aren't assuming that.

I applied for a Need-Based grant by filling out a grant application a couple weeks ago. I just received my Provisional Award Letter and under "Total GIft Aid" it only lists my Merit Scholarship and no other grant. Does this mean my request for a Need-Based grant has been denied?

Probably not, but email financial aid to check.thoughtsinvacuum wrote:I applied for a Need-Based grant by filling out a grant application a couple weeks ago. My provisional aid award reminded me just how much more expensive than their peers UCLA is for me.

I don't think so. I received 7.5k in need according to the award email a few weeks ago, but my provisional letter only says I have 5. I think it's because it says it's the estimated amount we'll receivethoughtsinvacuum wrote:I applied for a Need-Based grant by filling out a grant application a couple weeks ago. Are you also factoring that ucla law has agreed to freeze tuition for the next three years where other schools are likely going to increase? Might actually be a little bit more if you wanted to negotiate with USC!Rigo wrote:I've done the math and USC needs a $40k higher scholarship than UCLA to be equal cost if you assume in-state at UCLA 2L ad 3L. Something to consider but you can't really say "Hey USC, I'm going to view your likelihood of raising tuition in the least charitable way possible." Even if they raise tuition by 4% each year it's still only about $5k in extra expense total over three years. And the UCLA "guarantee" is deceiving because it still allows them to raise tuition $4k over three years so it's kind of a wash in my book and merely a marketing ploy by UCLA.Litt1tUp wrote:Are you also factoring that ucla law has agreed to freeze tuition for the next three years where other schools are likely going to increase? Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed. In via phone call on Friday. Still waiting to hear on merit-aid, the Dean said sometime this week.Bunbury wrote:Yes, me I also took the Feb LSAT. Nope, I didn't hear anything from them until the phone call and there were no changes to my status before they called.DumbHollywoodActor wrote:I went to complete at that time too. $110k is the max offer if you aren't an applicant for one of those full-ride, separate app schollies.dyebri wrote:Thanks. However, I've been talking to the dean (of admissions) about it and there's definitely a possibility of going higher.
