Didn't make the WL... sigh...
Have you checked your status checker? A lot of us didn't get an email update telling us we were on the WL.
You saved my life.
I didn't even know HLS had changed my status (and that I was WL-ed).
Without you, I'd have just assumed I was rejected and moved on... thank you so much!!

I'm glad you were able to figure this out from this thread (as was I), but it makes me wonder how many Harvard waitlisters don't even know they were waitlisted? How many will lose the opportunity to confirm their spot because they didn't know? Will HLS eventually email the people who haven't responded via the status checker? So. Many. Questions.
Does this give more hope to the neurotic ones?

Does Harvard still have a reputation for being really cutthroat? I really want to like it and I'm pretty nervous for ASW

Hi, won't know until we get there. If it's any comfort, all of the current students I have spoken to have been very warm and friendly and have said nothing but good things!

I mean there are always going to be ridiculously type A awful people at all elite law schools. It's such a massive class that I'm sure you'll find a few people you really click with though.

Thanks y'all. One more question, can anyone speak to whether or not HYS are willing to negotiate on need-based aid?

That's not really how it works.

ONLY under the condition that your
need-based aid was evaluated very differently by another school. In that case, they can re-evaluate your financial aid application. So technically not a "negotiation".

So would different aid from S or Y be compelling if based on need based?

I think so, if the difference is significant.

Tried negotiating and it didn't work, but I was told very promising stories of 2Ls and 3Ls who made 70k+ by TAing during the year and doing biglaw over the summer.

I just wonder whether there are scholarships available for top performers during the 3 years. For example, assume you are among the top 10 students in 1L, and you will be awarded a scholarship established under one big name or something

There are actually "merit" awards for Sears Prize winners (top 2 in 1l or 2l). Something on the order of 10k or 15k.

Does anyone how schools like Harvard and Yale rank their classes if they don't give grades? (It seems like their is some way of judging where you place in relation to other students but I don't see how...)

I think you are talking about Yale. I remember Harvard does give grades and that's why they have this rumor of cutthroat culture

I mean Honors, Pass, and Low Pass still act as grades and are relative comparisons with your classmates. You could potentially be benefited by it or screwed a bit by it due to the big groupings that hide your actual rank within the grouping.
An old thread discussing Harvard median 1L grades and breaking it down a bit more:

I thought HLS still had grades, this is surprising!
