There are pretty clearly like 4 numbers that every package could contain, but I'm surprised we're not seeing at 114K offers this year.

Re: Duke Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
For anyone waiting on a scholarship, these are the back of the envelope averages for scholarship bands based on LSN numbers:
Scholarship GPA LSAT
176,100 175 4.03
120,000 172 3.92
105,000 171 3.87
90,000 167 3.77
81,000 170 3.77
75,000 170 3.77
72,000 169 3.77
67,500 170 3.80
54,000 167 3.75
Obviously very little data but I think it is interesting to see how the bands fall generally speaking
Also sorry the format is shit, I couldn't figure out how to do a table

Do you think these numbers posted include need-based aid? When Duke deliver scholarship $$, do they let you know how much was for need and how much for merit, or is it lumped together?
If you sit at these numbers but are v poor, is there a possibility of receiving more $$?

Something else to consider: I'm in one of the JD/LLMs, and my interviewer explicitly told me that the higher tuition for those people is a factor in the decision. So if there's a slight discrepancy between people with similar numbers that could be why.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:For anyone waiting on a scholarship, these are the back of the envelope averages for scholarship bands based on LSN numbers:

Mine definitely included a bunch of need based aid. My numbers don't warrant how much I received. In my CSS profile and my interview, I made sure to emphasize that I wouldn't be receiving any help from my parents and that my public Interest career goals would require substantial aid in order for me to attend. I honestly think they paid attention to that.

Re: Duke Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I just got a letter saying I will be receiving no aid from Duke. It's like a knife in the back. I made it clear I cannot attend without financial aid. My stats would put me around 90,000 in merit without consideration for financial need. I have extreme financial need on top of that. It just feels like they are trying to get rid of me or something. Could this be a mistake? Did anyone else get nothing when their stats and need merit otherwise? Should I email them to ask if it was a mistake?

D: I'm really sorry to hear that, I can imagine how awful that must feel. I would contact them just to get an idea of what their thought process was...and where to go from here.HopefulVaultDweller wrote:I just got a letter saying I will be receiving no aid from Duke. I can't speak to whether or not this is a common occurrence, but maybe others can chime in.

What were your stats? I have literally never heard of this. 75% of students received aid and I honestly thought only a handful of people who took the time to apply would be nixed. This sounds like they messed up or something really significant happened...HopefulVaultDweller wrote:I just got a letter saying I will be receiving no aid from Duke. It's like a knife in the back. This is terrible! So sorry that happened. I'm not sure I found frame it as a "mistake" rather than asking what they took into consideration to come to that decision.HopefulVaultDweller wrote:I just got a letter saying I will be receiving no aid from Duke. I don't want to identify exact stats because I don't want to identify myself to the admissions people. I'm at 50th percentile LSAT, well over 75th on GPA. URM. Still trying to wrap my head around it. I got extremely good scholarships from other, even higher ranked schools. I was still set on Duke as my first choice though. I will also have literally no support from my parents whatsoever and loans are not an option. But yeah, given that there is no way I can attend with no package I might as well email them and ask them what their thought process was. Thanks for the advice.pizzagoblin wrote:This is terrible! this is weird. I also see that you only got 75K from Michigan. are you sure it isn't something about your app? if those really are your stats, you should have gotten well over 100K at Michigan as well. with URM status, those are Darrow numbers.HopefulVaultDweller wrote:I don't want to identify exact stats because I don't want to identify myself to the admissions people. I had excellent recs and a decent (though not great) resume. I got an extremely competitive scholly at Cornell and some T-20 schools too so no idea what happened. The interview okay as well (again not great but well). But I appreciate the support y'all. Hopefully another top choice of mine will come through. I was just really dead set on Duke.proteinshake wrote:this is weird. Likely there is something wrong with your app. Like seriously wrong. Also, I'm not saying Duke is doing this, but if you really have such a desperate need for financial help, school(s) might realize even if they give you 50% scholarship you still couldn't attend, and they decided they aren't giving you a full scholarship, then they are just cutting to the chase by not giving you much/if at all.HopefulVaultDweller wrote:I had excellent recs and a decent (though not great) resume. Also, it might be that you think you are an URM but just aren't getting the bump. I have no idea if this is the case, but seems at least like an explanation.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I messed up the CSS and made it seem like I'm a billionaire. I don't think there is anything wrong with my general app given that I have done very well at almost every other school. I like your point on not giving anything to those with extreme financial need. Maybe that's what they were doing. But honestly, if they just told me that it would hurt a whole lot less than this. Does anyone know if any schools have done similar things in the past? Any experience would be appreciated.grades?? wrote:Likely there is something wrong with your app. Like seriously wrong. Not sure why you only got $75K from Michigan because they don't consider your financial history in making merit aid, but if Duke is your first choice you can definitely let them know that but say the COA with your scholarship at Michigan is more competitive. Say you will definitely attend if they match Michigans offer. Obv say it a different more diplomatic and grateful wayHopefulVaultDweller wrote:I just got a letter
