I think the mailing may be the ASW eval I just received.

Re: Duke Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I never said that the people who trash talk CLS are salty about getting in, I just said it was odd. I am in at CCN but likely going the Mich/UVA route and I think there are plenty of reasons to do so. I don't think the opportunities are significantly different at these schools and I think they are great schools! However, what I noticed at Duke was unsolicited opinions about "every" student at CLS/Chicago, instead of saying why they loved it where they were. Mich/UVA showed me why they might be more collegial/happy, rather than needing to "tell" by putting down other schools.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:I don't think it's a stretch at all the say more than half of Duke Law students get in to CCN (though maybe not CLS in particular because that's one school and between flukes and non-applicants I wouldn't be comfortable saying that's over 50%)VA2lawschool wrote:While I'm sure there are some, I'm not sure "most kids got into CLS" at Duke seems at all accurate to me. It might be because their class size is almost triple ours, the general hustle and bustle of NYC, whatever it is. I also heard some people giving honest advice about going to another school if you want certain things for your career.
Did not hear any ribbing of Michigan or UVA (someone might have said Ann arbor was cold, but that's it)
Namely it seemed like they were just like "academics is pretty much the same, but our longitude is better"
I think the sell to Durham is rather easy. 3rd smallest class size in the t10, best weather of the t10, and access to every large market with great biglaw and clerkship %s. Plus Durham is just a much nicer place to spend stressful 1L than NYC, at least for me.
80% of students have scholarship, and an above median student is above 25 lsat and above median GPA at CLS.
You can choose to think more than half the students are just salty about not getting into CLS (I have no hard evidence to prove that wrong), but I don't really think the numbers support that

My inference was that you thought less than 50% had the opportunity to go to CLS and feel the need to put the school down. That would imply you think they're salty, but sorry if I made an incorrect inference.VA2lawschool wrote:I never said that the people who trash talk CLS are salty about getting in, I just said it was odd. On your other note I met many students who loved where they were and didn't put down the other schools in doing so. I'm not doubting your experience, but I am sorry you had a bad one because how you explained UVA/mich is how I walked away from duke

I think Deposit 1 (of 1?) is due April 22nd. It's really strange the way the communications are on it (it seems to be very negotiable).Beads2017 wrote:When are first seat deposits due/ how do we pay them? I'm having trouble finding the right spot on the website for that information
As to how you pay, it should be in your welcome package but:
1) you can pay by E-Check at https://www.dukeonline.duke.edu/bursar
2) mail a paper check (they recommend UPS or FedEx next day)
you also need to send in the acceptance form at:
https://law.duke.edu/admis/downloads/ac ... neform.pdf
you can just scan and email or send with paper check.
Also for anyone, do we need to send in the signed scholly letter?

Yes you do! Either send both the scholarship letter and contract w/ the deposit info and acceptance form or your can do it separately. You can send them both to the same email and they'll forward scholarship stuff to financial aidDr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:I think Deposit 1 (of 1?) is due April 22nd. Does anyone know if Duke requires a deans certification. I am trying to get all my deadlines and required documents in order.

Do we have any idea how long Duke takes to re-consider scholarship offers? I saw someone mention that re-evaluations are done by committee as well, does this slow things down a lot?
