What''s your experience been like regarding the community at Chicago? I've heard it can be pretty gunnerish.

Also how does the quarter system affect your classes? I went to undergrad with semesters and my friends with quarters always had whacky class schedules.

Why not? Yeah it sucks to write them, but the rewards so outweigh the costs.

you should do it for the schools I mentioned in the UVA thread

I've never seen anyone do a Why Cornell or Why Northwestern so I doubt it'll help but if you want to it certainly won't hurt.

you should do it for the schools I mentioned in the UVA thread

Cornell asks you in the interview, which could be why people don't usually do it

I did but I had very compelling, sincere reasons for why Chicago. People say it won't matter but I know they ask WLed candidates for one. As long as it's sincere, it won't matter. Just don't force one because then it will actually hurt your app.

If you have the time and a genuine interest it's worth a shot. If you're too busy then don't sweat it; plenty of people can do transactional stuff after/during law school without Doctoroff.

where do Doctoroff grads go if not Biglaw?

For specifics. It's a new program but my friends are all gearing towards biglaw during OCI from Doctorff.

The community is what makes me happy to come back and happy to stay here. I love these people; they have quickly become my family. I was afraid of our reputation as well but it's not really true. There's people who are intense and we're all here to learn and better ourselves academically but it's never at the expense at someone else. Having a small class-size helps prevent being a gunner because everyone would instantly know about it.

Classes are fine. It's great in the fall and backlogged in the spring, but at least you ease in to law school finals. They're about 8 weeks long but depending on the schedule it can change. It's a great opportunity to take more classes and get a wider breadth of experiences although it comes at a cost of losing some depth. That being said, our professors are kickass and will teach you a lot in your time with them and are always happy to chat if you're still interested.

I'm just paying it forward - best of luck and keep the questions coming. It's a nice break from OCI.

Do they really expect us to include # of hours/week for each activity on our resume? It's really messing with my formatting. What's the risk of just submitting a normal resume?

They don't appear to have a separate activities section on the app this year, which is good IMO. It seemed so clunky. At least with resume you get to present it to them the way you want, hours and all...

Hey guys, I'm an international applicant and thus don't qualify for LSAC's fee waiver. I also don't fall under any of the pre-approved categories listed on the UChicago website for a fee waiver. And because they are so explicit about individual requests not being reviewed, I'm a bit scared of asking. It would look stupid on my part if I can't even follow such clearly worded policies on the official page, right?

Does anyone have any positive experiences of soliciting a waiver from this school?

I asked and they said they didn't grant requests. A week later they sent me an "unsolicited" one. It's unclear how correlated the two were.

Just applied today. First law school application done. Nervous/excited
