I wish Chicago would just let me die. I'm UR3 with no interview, I have still not seen a single person get into the school after this, and I was Wait listed two years ago.
We all know where this is going, are you afraid to have the "we should see other people" convo?

I'm almost positive someone posted semi-recently saying they got an interview invite after UR3 last year and were ultimately accepted.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:I wish Chicago would just let me die. I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]

I would go Harvard because that was my dream school, but it's really you that will have to deal with the money. Harvard debt will be easier to pay off than debt from any other school, but no debt from Chicago is hard to beat. I wish I was in your shoes, and best of luck making a choice that can't possibly be the wrong onedinan15 wrote:I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]
edit: I realize now that you said HYS, but my words still hold for H if that was the school

I would probably take the Ruby over H or S at least (wish I was in your position!) but to be honest you can't go wrong, can you?dinan15 wrote:I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]

Ruby all the way, if H. Y is a closer call since they're kind of in a league of their own for the unicorn placement (academia and SCOTUS clerkships).dinan15 wrote:I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]
Placement for H and Chi are very similar, even for the unicorn jobs - http://leiterrankings.com/new/2011_LawTeachers.shtml http://www.leiterrankings.com/new/2013_ ... ment.shtml http://www.leiterrankings.com/new/2012_Boutiques.shtml
If you don't want a unicorn, that makes Chi an even easier choice. Not to mention the freedom of little to no debt.

Thanks for posting this. I didn't know UT did well for boutiques compared to other t14 schoolsAlexandros wrote:Ruby all the way, if H. Note that that's almost all from Susman Godfrey, which is in TX. I don't think one should interpret that as meaning they do especially well at elite lit boutiques in general.PrezRand wrote:Thanks for posting this. True. I just assumed SG targets T6 schools.Alexandros wrote:Note that that's almost all from Susman Godfrey, which is in TX. Go to your dream school. You will pay off your loans in 5 year, you will carry your credentials with you for the rest of your life. My parents, who take risks and are very successful, always remind me about this British saying: "penny wise, pound foolish".dinan15 wrote:I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]
All schools you listed are just top of the line, you can't get better options than HYS & Chicago. So go to your dream school!
Best of luck

HYS no doubt. Just can't compare what it will mean for your career long-term. Literally can do anything -- law or not law -- with HYS on your resume. Same isn't true for Chicago.dinan15 wrote:I've asked this question on several other forums, so why not here too: Ruby or HYS[I'm estimating 60-90 K aid]
If you don't take the best school you can, you'll always be that guy saying (or thinking) "I *could* have gone to..."

Re: Chicago C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Does anyone think it's a bad idea to send a Why Chicago statement? The FAQ page says:
"The Admissions Committee strongly prefers that you submit all information with your initial application. If you must send an electronic update for your application, send it to admissions@law.uchicago.edu and it will be uploaded to your file in our electronic database, but it will not be displayed on your Online Status Checker. Please do not submit any updates or additional materials after your Online Status Checker indicates that your application is "Complete" unless it relates to the Character and Fitness sections of the application."
I really would love to go to there (I'm that weirdo who LOVES UChicago despite all the hate lol) and have already written a statement. Would it be a bad move at this point to send it?

This is probably asked 5000 times already in this thread and others, but is sticker too much to pay at Chicago? Specifically for those interested in public interest. It seems to me that with the high $80,000 salary cap on the loan repayment assistance, you shouldn't really worry about the debt... either you make enough to be able to pay back the loans comfortably, or you get them forgiven. Am I missing something?

I'm not an expert but it seems like if they say not to send anything unless it's related to C&F you shouldn't....AllHailKingMao wrote:Does anyone think it's a bad idea to send a Why Chicago statement? The FAQ page says:

Re: Chicago C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
^That's a good point as well - I wrote a Why X for Columbia, but not for Chicago, then got interviewed by both - it was a LOT more natural to talk about why I loved Chicago at that point than it was to try to make up new reasons about Columbia that they hadn't already readPozzo wrote:Seconded. Plus, a "Why X" to a T6 seems a bit superfluous at best. If you get an interview, that would be a more natural place to talk about your enthusiasm for Chicago.lsa16 wrote:I'm not an expert but it seems like if they say not to send anything unless it's related to C&F you shouldn't....AllHailKingMao wrote:Does anyone think it's a bad idea to send a Why Chicago statement? if you're WLed, I would send one.
