Has anyone gotten good insight on the sense of community @ NYU/competitiveness amongst students?

born and have lived in NYC my whole life. the area around nyu is typically crowded throughout the day (especially Washington square park, unless the weather is extremely shitty), but then again nyc is crowded in general. i've never really been around nyu at night, but i've heard that nyu students usually are the ones roaming around, which isn't a surprise. there's lots of places to go to around nyu (starbucks, bars, stores, etc.). rent is expensive, as is everywhere here, but you should be able to find something, possibly within decent walking distance, that might be somewhat manageable.

not sure what your SO does, but mine says nyc would far and away be the easiest place for her to find a job.

I went to NYU for undergrad for a year and, as I'm sure is expected, it can be somewhat pricey because it's the city. BUT I lived in a dorm and had my dad's GI Bill so I think I got like 1200 or so a month and never had issues budgeting. NYU doesn't have a central campus but it does... if that makes sense. Most of the school buildings surround Washington Square Park more or less, like Bobst library, Stern business school, Steinhardt is a block or two away, the student union, the student store is a couple blocks away, and the performance art school (having a mind blank on the name) is a couple blocks away. BUT some of the dorms are kind of a walk. I liked the area BECAUSE it wasn't JUST a campus so there was a lot of grocery stores, cute little coffee shops, book stores, etc. I lived on 14th Street so my walk was about 10 blocks. I'm a fast walker though so it took me 15-20 mins to get to class, nothing too crazy. It's also nice because, like most places in the city, you can hop on a subway and get most everywhere. You can walk to Soho too, if you're into walking a little while. Usually could catch a cab from my dorm without difficulty too.

Wait, in regards to the poll, I didn't know we can apply for the IILJ scholars program on our application...........

can pls someone verify this w/me bc i mentioned it in my application as something I want to apply for if accepted (I know some pre-1Ls get it, but you can also apply during 2L) so if we can apply at the outset this would look really bad so help

I gathered applicants don't have to do anything to be considered for it. IILJ website:
No special application is made to the IILJ Scholars program by pre-JD students.  All applications by prospective JDs for admission to NYU Law School are reviewed for suitability with the IILJ Scholars program as part of the Law School’s general admissions process.
The Admissions office forwards the most promising of the relevant admissions applications to the IILJ, which reviews them and invites finalists to the campus to meet with us and to become familiar with the Law School. All questions regarding admissions to NYU Law JD program should be directed to the Office of Admissions

Don't think they say anything until like December. I just went from processing to under review! No complete stage

Did others have a complete stage? And trust me I'm with you on the long wait, it's my number one choice by far and in addition to that I'm trying to coordinate with my boyfriend who is applying to one of their medical residency programs this year haha

My AnBryce essay is giving me hell. For some reason, I'm finding it impossible to write.

Checking in, gotta quick question:

Do we need to submit our scholarship essay (AnBryce, Furman, RTK, etc.) along with the rest of the application? Or can we send it separately after our application is submitted?

Nothing but the Funk wrote:Received a fee waiver! I was thinking of including a why NYU essay but there doesn't really seem to be place on the app for it. If anyone else has attached one, where did you put? additional information? I have a legitimate reason to include one but I don't want to shoehorn it in.
Checking in! I was also wondering the same as above...

No complete stage for NYU.

Looks like we have to wait until December to hear anything. Also December is when they admit the most applicants, which is good news if you're like me and submitted late January last cycle.
