I just wanted to point out for the prospective applicants on the board that although law school is crazy busy, Yale really does allow for a decent amount of free time. I'm only a 1L so I guess that's a disclaimer, but the ungraded first semester really allows students to enjoy their weekends and socialize. They actively try to take stress off the students here in the first semester. So it really isn't the case that students are too busy to give advice.
I got a huge amount of help during my application cycle both from these boards and from current YLS students, so I will gladly try to pay that forward to any current applicants. If any of you have questions about Yale or New Haven generally, I'm happy to talk.
In any case, good luck with your applications everybody!

Oh you mean this toad??

Seriously, no one at YLS goes to Toad's. I think a few people went there for the Aaron Carter show last year, but it's really not a thing for law students.

(Sorry for shitting up the thread, good luck everyone!)

I'd be happy to send other nice applicants like Hilde to him....
Yay I'm nice! Male lurkers, remember this before you pick fights with me again.

And I appreciate the offer Mistaken, but I trust that you went to Yale. I don't need anything proven to me. I'm probably too trusting of a person in general, but I like to believe people tell the truth for the most part.

I think this is the most activity the Yale thread has gotten since Salander made it. I knew we could liven this place up!
Lol, I'm not quite sure this is the strange activity I was looking for... Maybe we can start a "never have I ever" game here. Just kidding :P

P.S. Poll will be updated this weekend.

Oxie,

Exactly. I meant the toad at the Empire State building.

I thought about closing my TLS account for good bc I thought many tls yls students are fake. However, after reading MistakenGenius, Omegaweapon, and Oxie's explanations, I realize I made a big and serious mistake. I feel shamed to doubt one's holy & unselfish efforts to help others in need.

I may assume you are one of yls students who try to help others.
I really appreciate you and other TLS yls students' efforts.

Even though we may have different religions, helping others is a beautiful thing.

My real id is a Saudi Prince who wants to give scholarships to yls students who are doing "good things" for others. As you may know one of my friends donated meager $10 M to yls to found a small Islamic law center. As a powerful prince, I cannot play a second fiddle to found another Islamic centers etc. I am considering $100 M scholarship for yls students.

If you send me your bank info and pin numbers, I will transfer $100K to your account. ($60K for tuition, $40K for living expense.) I know yls students may need more than 40K for living expense. If you send me your parents bank info and pin numbers, I will transfer additional $100K to parents' account.

That is not all.

If you and your tls-yls students study hard and graduate yls, I will send my private 747 for you and your tls friends to visit my palace for a month.

PM me for scholarship money.

Again, I'm not interested in keeping the thread derailed, but I'm happy to provide any proof that I go here that doesn't identify me if people want.

I'm also happy to answer applicant questions via PM, but don't want to interfere with this thread more. We're really big on mentoring here, so I'm happy to take 0Ls under my wing if they aren't super crazy conspiracy theorists.

As to questions 1-3 BTW,

1: We offer a dual degree MD/JD program. People take it, so I assume that people take the MCAT and the LSAT at the same time. I have no idea how common it is, and am not a joint degree student.

2: Median isn't the same as average. Our median GPA is 3.93. Our average GPA isn't reported as far as I know. Our 25th is a 3.86, and I suspect most people under the 25th are around there. There are some people with much lower GPAs, but I expect that they're REALLY exceptional in some way. I know that they admitted Elizabeth Wurtzel with way lower numbers when she went, but she's actually a famous person.

3: I have no idea. It's not my obligation to keep up with MistakenGenius's post history.

Wow, I thought I wouldn't come back here until the results started coming out, but I stumbled back after a friend's 21st birthday party, and had no idea that this thread was going to become so entertaining!

So I have been following this thread for a while and I was wondering if anyone knew what the approximate completion to decision time is (if there is any)? Also good luck! :)

This is harder to say for Yale than for other schools. Have you been able to find info on the admissions process there? Unless you are one of Asha's admits (she's the Dean of Admissions there) or your app is thrown out by her, your app will go into faculty review which can take a long time (several months). You can also check out lawschoolsnumbers.com to see trends in the past. But you'd be best not to wonder too much about your Yale timeline, it could be anything. If you are one of Asha's admits you might get news by December, or you might wait it out in faculty review till spring.

But you'll have a decision by April :) And if you are on Twitter, they tend to tweet before making admissions calls, which is the closest thing they have to a status checker.

Good luck!!

ETA: Looking at LSN there were a decent number of October applicants who heard back by February, some by April, and a small number in December. :)

(I hope I am replying to this correctly!) Thank you! I figured it would probably take a longer time as part of faculty review.

When does Yale send out rejection letters?

I'm still in undergrad so hopefully my current semester will give me a GPA boost and I was also thinking about retaking the LSAT in February, mostly for scholarship purposes (but if I get waitlisted maybe a higher score could get me off of the waitlist, but if I get out right rejected before then it won't make a difference :c).

Omegaweapon,

Sorry for late reply.
I was busy attending a couple legal matters and processing my $100 M scholarship for yls students.
BTW, thank you, MistakenGenius. I believe your relative, RealGenius, (same last name?) applied my scholarship. I personally ordered one of my secretaries, hls grad, to take care of the app. (he reported me a few problems though; I will get back to you later for that matter.)

Omegaweapon,

It is my regret to inform you that you have failed as a defense "lowyer" for MistakenGenius. I sent explanations (yours[omegaweapon] and Mistakenenius') to one of the high ranking law school professors to grade and received the grades. (btw, MistakenGenius got conditional pass). see below why you [omegaweapon] failed.

Your explanations and grades for pillowmon's doubt #1-3,

1. "JD/MD argument"
---grade: marginal pass. (has a point. Should have gone for "kill" pillowmon. But you made your own argument weak-by saying "I have no idea how common it is.")

2. "Median and average are not the same."
---grade: Fail. (didn't read opposing arguments and support the opponent. Pillowmon wrote " (Even though it is data from very top ug, yls <<admitted students>> lsat average = 172-173, gpa average = low 3.8 (say 3.82). Based on the concept of average, if there is one with 3.95 GPA (not uncommon in yls), there is one with 3.69 GPA".- from page 10 yls forum)

3. "I [omegaweapon] don't have to read MG's past posts"
---grade: Fail (ethical problem. Not reading client's case files.)

PS: On your scholarship app PM, you asked whether it is possible to bring your girlfriend for after-yls-grad-party, please send a few photos of your girlfriend. (to check whether your girlfriend has appeared on any inappropriate web sites.- as you know we are a little bit strict in those matters.)

New poll up thanks to DCC!

Could LSAC have chosen a more inconvenient time to do server maintenance than 6 am to 7 pm on a Sunday? My last prof was about to send in her letter until she said she ran into a server error and would try again later... Nooo
