Does UW negotiate for a living stipend?

I'm wondering the same thing.. just got an email with a notice of financial aid offer, but I need a UW NetID to log in and see it - and according to the admitted students website, you need a student ID and access code that was mailed to you? Which I don't recall ever getting. So basically can't see the offer?LawsRUs wrote:How do you find your UW NetID? Where do you find it?

You create it. In order to create the NetID you need your student number and your private access code. Both of these numbers are on the top of the enrollment confirmation instruction sheet,

Lol after an incredibly frustrating half hour of trying to log in, got in to see my financial "award" is just loans. Above both 75ths and took the time to write a scholarship essay, I've been frustrated of disappointed in UW every step of the way. Only school from top 10-30 that didn't offer me money. Withdrawing.

I didn't get any money either. Really surprised, because I thought my numbers were good for UW. I didn't write the essay, so I thought that was why. Weird. My financial award was also loans, they sent a separate email with their scholarship offer. Did you not receive an email with a scholarship offer?

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that you had to write the essay in order to be considered.
That being said, I didn't get any money either which was incredibly disappointing. They did say they would reevaluate when the committee meets again so I'm not withdrawing just yet.

I was also very disappointed to find out I got no scholarship. I did write the additional essay, and did one of the optional responses with my initial application, but on Friday got an email informing me that I wasn't awarded anything. I have deposit deadlines coming up at other schools on 4/15 (which is the date after which the committee will meet again) so by then it will be too late for me.giantswan wrote:LawsRUs wrote:I didn't get any money either. Not sure if I'm one of the people this was directed at, but I did receive a separate email from admissions that stated they had reviewed my scholarship application and were unable to offer me an award at this time. But maybe this will offer a glimmer of hope to someone else on here, so thanks for clarifying!mcmand wrote:Guys, whatever shows up in MyUW may not reflect what Admissions is actually awarding you. Only rely on emails from the UW Law admissions office re: scholarships. The people who control the financial aid info on myuw are a completely separate office at the university and may not be synced up with UW law.
Also, you have to write the essay for any scholarships. No essay, no money. It's a pretty hard and fast rule per my understanding.

Thank you for the good info, but unfortunately like nosocat I'm in the camp that received an email from UW Law saying they could not offer a scholarship at this time, but that they would be reconvening. I appreicate you adding your insight, regardless!

I will say the email about my "financial aid award" did make me momentarily excited until I found out "award" translated to 100% loans. Hated to do it, but I've withdrawn. Best of luck to everyone!

I received my scholarship a few days ago but it isn't reflected on the "my awards" section. It only reflects loans and other need-based awards I believe.
Thought I would share in case anyone saw the financial aid email and got disappointed. It doesn't necessarily mean you didn't qualify for a scholarship. Scholarships come via email so don't lose hope!

Regarding UW Merit Based Scholarships:
Although I know this will not be much help for the current application cycle, I thought it was worth stating for applicants and re-applicants reviewing this board for next year. The UW, like all law schools, will be willing to extend offers of admission to highly qualified applicants late in the the application cycle. However, as a state school responsible for staying profitable and providing reasonable tuition rates for in-state applicants, the pool of merit-based aid will certainly be more quickly depleted than those offers of admission.
Based on my own experience and a review of forums form previous years it's pretty clear that the UW has no problem doling out its available funds early in the application cycle. I was admitted as an out-of-state student in early December and submitted my merit scholarship shortly thereafter and was extended close to $100k in aid. So as an applicant, I would suggest viewing the date at which you submit your scholarship application as a factor of nearly equal importance to your LSAT and GPA. Everyone is a special snowflake but everyone is also close to a 3.7 and 165 or whatever and the first one to apply is the one who is going to end up with funds from a state school more often than not.

Re: University of Washington c/o 2018 (2014-2015)
Lol thx for the insight. I submitted in November, was accepted in January above both 75ths, five years of work experience and compelling reasons to attend, and got nothin. Again, only school I've been accepted to that offered nothing, and it's the second-lowest ranked I applied to. Your theory doesn't hold up. And if you'd been keeping track, the first scholarships just went out last week. Not exactly "early in the cycle", I'd say they do have a problem.uwwwwww wrote:Regarding UW Merit Based Scholarships:
