Well if you want to practice in Texas and Texas alone, UT is arguably a better choice than Michigan. Just get the apps in and when you get close to decision time make a "choosing a law school thread," and you'll get plenty of help in making a good decision.FairchildFLT wrote:I do have ties and want to practice in Texas. The majority of active 2017 UT TLSers are out of state, drop by the C/O 2017 thread if you'd like any specific advice from us.JerryLundegard wrote:Checking in! Though the in state rule makes Texas a reach for this jersey boy

I wouldn't say Texas alone. My list would be Texas, Colorado, wherever pays enough to eat.Will_McAvoy wrote:Well if you want to practice in Texas and Texas alone, UT is arguably a better choice than Michigan. Checking in! UT is my #1 but a reach as of right now. We'll see how September 27 goes though.

I just wish they'd tell us medians already. For those of you who get in and go to ASW, you have an obligation to give us employment numbers

Yep, I just sent mine in too.
UT Law is my number one choice. (Assuming they back a dump truck full of money to my front door.)

Also if you're a TX resident you will get a 3-4K stipend every year tacked on to your scholarship. They don't really advertise it but everyone gets it.Attax wrote:BTW if you are a TX resident or have parents who are TX residents who were in the military you can get Hazelwood FundingNoLieAbility wrote:Yep, I just sent mine in too.

Is there a deadline by which the ABA requires law schools to release their numbers, or can UT just hold onto that info as long as they want?

I wouldn't worry about that, even once you get it. UT's was pretty worthless IIRC. They don't use the standard LSAC status checker, it's their own thing that doesn't really say or do anything until you get accepted.xylocarp wrote:has anyone gotten a status checker or anything yet?

What McAvoy said. You'll get a call when you're admitted, until then you'll just get a page on freshlaw that says your application is complete. And even then it won't update until awhile after you're admitted.xylocarp wrote:has anyone gotten a status checker or anything yet?

Pardon the grumpiness to kick things off here, but being a beneficiary of the GI bill has nothing to do with luck, and everything to do with sacrificing a hell of a lot for very little in return. 3 years of school is the least we could do.ilikebaseball wrote:So...soooooo lucky. If law school was free for me, I'd totally be shooting for YHS. The biggest reason I'm shooting for UT (besides wanting to work here) is because the value is incredible if you look at all the rest of the schools respective to it in the rankings. Especially with in state tuition, but even if you arent a resident, if you combine OOS tuition with Austin COL, its STILL cheaper.FairchildFLT wrote:Checking in. That said, I'm checking in!
175/3.56, in-state, 5 years out of UG, currently abroad, pretty good journalism-related softs.
Was offered Chancellor Scholly ($96k) two years ago, but turned it down to pursue the journalism career abroad until the right time to move back to the US.
Good luck to all!

Really? On top of the offer, you get 3-4k a year?McAvoy wrote:Also if you're a TX resident you will get a 3-4K stipend every year tacked on to your scholarship.
