2014-2015 Admissions Spreadsheets

Last cycle, the infinitely awesome lawschool22 created spreadsheets for the top 14 law schools (see 2013-2014 Admissions Results: Spreadsheet Compendium thread). These spreadsheets provided valuable statistical analysis of TLSers' application info. He first posted the spreadsheets mid-cycle in November, and they still ended up being super helpful sources of information and analysis. So this cycle, when everybody starts making c/o 2018 applicants threads, let's put links to the new spreadsheets in the OPs and keep them updated right from the start! Just open the spreadsheets for the schools you’re applying to and enter your stats in the second tab. The more data, the better the analysis!

Please don’t edit anything other than your own line of info, including sorting the data or filtering it in any way! If you want to do those things, go to file → make a copy, and then do whatever you want to your copied version.

smccgrey wrote:Just looking at the spreadsheet fields... What do you think defines Average or Above Average softs?

Below Average would likely be non-URM K-JD with little work exp. or community involvement, but what takes someone from average to above average, if they aren't URM and don't have military experience?
This was discussed a lot in last year's spreadsheets thread, and the general consensus was that it's very, very difficult to define.

Here's one list that was floating around:
iamgeorgebush wrote: "Highly Unique" : Rhodes, founder of a nonprofit/startup, chef at a Michelin starred restaurant, NFL player, published novelist, etc.
"Above Average" : Marshall/Gates/Fulbright/Truman, MBB Consulting/bulge bracket Investment Banking, production assistant at CNN, paralegal at the ACLU, software engineer at a venture-funded startup, officer of a state or national student organization, etc.
"Average" : student government, student newspaper, neighborhood outreach, fund raising, officer at a student club or two, etc. (some combination of at least three of these)
"Below Average" : one or two of "average"
"Weak" : few to no ECs/internships
But obviously it's not comprehensive and there was a lot of disagreement about it, so take that with a grain of salt.

Where does solid WE fall in that, you think? Not prestigious, but not basic either.

Probably somewhere between average and above average? assuming it's several years. but add onto that any other stuff you're doing/have done and as a whole it probably ends up above average. add onto that like... U Phoenix undergrad, and you're probably solidly @ average.

edit: I am by no means the arbiter of softs quality, so please anyone who knows more chime in. And take everything I say with a grain of salt, because I'm just guessing based on other stuff I've read here.

Hey xylo, could you add a column to the spreadsheets, and possibly also a calculation, for submission of Why X essays? Blueberry suggested this might help us track YP and it would definitely be interesting. Mmm, data...

Happy to help if you think this is a good idea/need it.
