Hi all, first time poster here.
UW is one of my top picks since I have family in the area and genuinely love the location. Unfortunately, I fear my LSAT may hold me back and I wanted to hear your suggestions on what to do this app cycle.

Vitals:
3.93 GPA from U of Miami -- decent softs: Phi Beta Kappa, 4 years part-time employment and 1 year full-time at a law firm.
LSAT: 158
Male, Non-URM, Florida resident

I know, I know -- I plan to re-take the LSAT, but not until February. I tried the self study method and it just didn't work for me -- I only improved by 6 points from my diagnostic test and still feel like I have a lot of work to do and room for improvement. Consequently, I'm taking a prep course to ready me for the February LSAT with the hope of scoring in the mid 160s at least. With that info in mind, do you think I'm better served by holding out until March when I receive a (hopefully) higher LSAT, or applying with my current stats? The former is problematic because of seat availability/scholarship money at that time; the latter because the odds of success aren't so great with a 158. Lastly, and I'm not sure if it's worth considering, but the recruiter at the Miami LSAC Forum said UW is trying hard to attract Floridians, but generally failing to do so. Is state diversity a concern for some schools?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Hey! UW does like out of state students, because they charge out of state tuition. I've heard that about both the UG and law school. As for the specific numbers, I don't know, sorry :(.

70.6% of the UW law school class last year were in state students.

Grimble, they will love that GPA but they aren't going to like that LSAT score and being from Florida is irrelevant. Higher GPAs are relatively easier to get than high LSATs thanks to grade inflation, so the best way to ensure you get a spot is to get that LSAT up. You might apply with a note explaining that you intend to sit for the February LSAT. That lets them know you are interested and also gets you in ahead of the mad rush immediately prior to application deadlines.

Last year it was the week before Thanksgiving but if they follow the tend from some other schools this year it could be any day now.

Considering applying here, though I've never been to Seattle. The fee waiver just tempted me. Do New Englanders typically like Seattle?

Seattle has a lot to offer, both urban and rural, with the city center close and the Cascades/Pacific Ocean not that far away. If you like rain and traffic, then you really hit the jackpot.

AboveTheLawl wrote:"the trust’s income, or about $3 million a year, will go to fund student scholarships and general education needs at the UW law school, and to create the Jack MacDonald Endowed Chair."

3 million a year for an annual class size of ~140-150 is an AMAZING amount of money. I am super excited about it for future applicants and the program as a whole.

Scholarships awards should increase in frequency and size.
dude, i am SUPER excited that uw is getting the money. uw is extremely cash strapped and needs all that it can get.

that being said, your constant "uw is great! this is why you should go here!" is making uw look like a ttt school when it's not. uw is great. the people applying know that.

I have also been in review since 11/22 as well. Does anyone know when they sent out the first round of acceptances last year?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
