Did you go to ASD and meet with the current TV reporter and law student?

I am very surprised we have not heard more ... I know quite a few in state applicants that still have not heard anything and are still "in review".............

I had a friend that just got a rejection letter and his status checker never changed ... makes me nervous!

She did a phenomal job of being a spokeswoman for Law School. Especially for those going to law school for altruistic reasons.

Is she single?

The only turn off was that she said she had no idea what she wanted to do with her degree when she graduated. She got us all excited about law school and the great good we could do with a law degree and we were all ready to bite the hook but then she told us she has no idea what she will do with her law degree.

She still has no idea what she wants to do with her degree. Don't mistake that sentiment, though. She wants to do so much, her specific area of focus remains difficult for her to narrow down. I think she's getting there, though. She's still got a year left.

She is happily married :).

Same here, pretty surprising considering this is my state school. Not happy at all about this.

I wonder what the odds of getting off this list are, and when?

From the 2011 thread, not mine btw:

Quote:
This was my experience from last year, before I continue I would like to strongly point out that EVERY year is unique for admissions so don't read too much into this, but....

Last year my LSAT score was a 155, my GPA from UNLV a 3.6 and my LSDAS GPA was 3.1. In the third week of April I received an email that stated I was put on the waitlist. I emailed the admissions office with a letter of continued interest and was finally contacted in late may that they would not be able to admit me. Obviously I was devistated, but Boyd has ALWAYS been my top choice so I took the year off, got a job in sales (again) and waited to year out, retook the LSAT, met with Nathan Neeley to learn how to better my application (That was priceless information! I really appreciated how he pulled no punches in telling me where my application was weak, it helped a lot).

I heard through the grape vine (a reliable one) that waitlisted students usually total around 200 or so. Of those students there is an average of 8 seats that open up. When those seats do open they review each application and then pick someone to fill, so it's not like you are given a number once placed on the waitlist. This means you have a 4% chance of making it in from the waitlist (if these numbers are accurate), but it is still a chance.

From what I have been told, there is almost no seats that open for the part time program as those students tend to have strong reasons for wanting to go part time (i.e. staying in town, good job already, family support, etc.,) and therefore you have less of a chance of making it in off the waitlist.

Now I realize that this sounds very doom and gloomy, but you should know where you stand by now, or in the coming weeks, and you can use it to help you make any decisions. My strongest recommendation is that if you are serious about becoming a lawyer, and you do not already have a firm, or uncle, or sibling, or someone that owes you some kind of life-debt willing to hire you right outta law school, then do NOT settle for going to whomever accepts you, but wait it out and go to a school that is nationally recognized. UNLV has a legal writing program that is ranked 3rd in the nation! This is huge for anyone wanting to become a clerk for a judge, or work in any legislature, but it also will be extremely helpful in everyday practice. There moot court has also become well known in such a short time. In my opinion it is worth fighting for, so write those letters of continued interest, meet with whomever you need to and get in at the best schools.

I don't mean to be a pooper, but I went to ASD and talked with a few of the students. Every single student that I talked with had a full ride scholarship too. Sample size about 15.

All them told me they weren't seriously considering UNLV until they got the scholarship information. A large group of us talked after the ASD presentation and each one of them told me they were going to attend UNLV simply because of the full ride. They were going to turn down schools like Georgetown, UCLA, U of A, George Washington, UC Davis, and U of Utah to take the full ride.
Days after ASD, UNLV sweetened each of our scholarships.

All I have a clue about is the ~15 people I talked with during and after the ASD.

If all ~75 students at the ASD each had full rides I don't think there is any way there will be much movement on the waitlist.

A reason though to believe the waitlist will move a lot is that when I called Elizabeth to find out about paying my deposit, she seemed pleasantly shocked that I would be attending UNLV.

And as a point of clarification, the student that was turning down GeorgeTown to go to UNLV stated the only reason she was doing that was because she had a 6 month old daughter and her Mother was going to take care of her while she went to law school and she was from the area.

BTW, does anyone know why Nathan Neely left and where he went?

They mentioned it at ASD. He just had a baby and they wanted to go back to Texas where his family is from so they could have help taking care of the kid.

I was at the first ASD and was admitted in December. I don't have a full ride scholarship.

I don't know if he got another job. I'm instate and I got a 1/3 scholarship.

Nathan Neely is now with admissions for University of Houston Law School.
