NYC LSAT TUTORS - Ian Striker vs. Laura Hirsch!

Post by IFeelLikeImOn42 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 1:43 pm

I flubbed my December test by bombing LG. I am hiring a tutor in NYC for the sole purpose of teaching me LG, which should bring me to 170 range. Anyone have any experience with either of these tutors? I have spoken to both of them and am on the fence - some personal experience would be very helpful. Also, if you are in NYC and had a great experience with a tutor, particularly in learning LG, please reccomend that person. The next month needs to turn me into a fine tuned machine!

Bump

Come on, someone in NYC has to know a good LG tutor. Even a sarcastic reply making me look like an idiot is preferable to silence...someone share!

I'm an NYC LSAT tutor myself and have always heard great things from people, on here and "on the street," about Laura Hirsch. Have never heard of Ian Striker. I'm sure he's great too.

Can you teach me LGs? I'm accurate, but awful on timing. My only approach has been to practice some sections under timed conditions and review them myself. I've never had any training on methodology, so I'm looking to bring my time down in that section by following something more concrete than my disorganized intuiton.

Thanks for responding to the question, by the way.

Yes. I'll PM you. But for the purposes of full disclosure, I am not only less expensive but less experienced than at least the latter of these two tutors.

Mallard's attractiveness only weighs in if Mallard is a female. I have a feeling this is not the case, so unfortunately that will not factor in. Laura Hirsch, on the other hand...

I'm afraid only male mallards have the beautiful plumage exhibited to the left.

Hi Laura Hirsch,

Next time you make a fake account to promote yourself on here, you might not want to make a username with "Lau" in it.

No one's going to hire you anyway: People are sick of being screwed:

I think these sort of "lesser known" guys are suspect. If I were you I would invest in tutoring by one of the well respected ones like powerscore, testmasters or blueprint (if they're still around).

Talk to Mallard (from this board). He's good and in NYC.

I am a NYC tutor and I would be willing to help you with LG or LR. I am not sure if you're still interested in tutoring, but if so reply back and we can discuss tutoring further.
Good luck

just dropping in a thought here,

the best tutor would be someone who struggled with the material and learned to score in the 170s, not someone who flatly understood the material quickly enough to get a 180.

my reasoning for this is that the former can relate to your troubles while the latter can just simply show you where you are having problems and may lack the experience of getting there.

so I would not hire either of them and go with mallard or someone else on this board that does not make 3rd party promotions for their own selves.

While I agree with life1001 about who the best tutor would be, I think Mallard is talking about himself being a tutor. I agree it makes sense to get someone who struggled with the LSAT as opposed to being naturally adept at the test. I only scored in the 99th percentile after hard work. Initially i was testing closer to 155.
Good luck with your decision either way.

thanks for agreeing with my hypothesis;

on advertising; however I pointed out that one shouldn't pick those who pretend to be third parties and advocate for themselves (Laura in this case-see above); mallard flatly advertises for himself and I have no problem with that

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
