Should I take the LSAT in February or June? [Details Inside]

Post by bluefreakbob » Wed Dec 20, 2017 8:43 pm

Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this is a question easily answered by resources online (point me their way).

How long did you all study for your LSATs, and how much improvement did you see over that period? I'm deciding between taking the February or June tests next year, and earlier is better so I'd prefer February, but obviously only if I can maximize my chances at a good grade in that short timeline. I took my first ever cold, fully-timed diagnostic yesterday (12/19) and got a 172 for reference. I'm a senior in college not applying until after working for a few years so urgency for applications is not an issue.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Was this a 4 or 5 section diagnostic?

4. One of the recent official tests released by LSAC. Does that make a difference?

There is a stamina/exhaustion factor. Your final section in the real test will be a real one. A lot of people can see a dip in performance if they’re not used to it. You’re at an amazing start.

Since you said it’s a recent test, that’s good. You could probably do feb and be fine, generally, without knowing your more specific goals for your cycle. If you’re neurotic and need to know what you did wrong, just remember the February test you only get your score unlike the others where you get a copy of the test.

If you diag at 172 there’s no real point in waiting. Study up to your inevitable 175 and just take it in Feb

Take another test or two, under test conditions, see how you do, and then decide. You'll probably see a dip in your score on test day, so if you're aiming for a 170+, which you should be, then I would try to consistently score 173ish on your PTs before your Feb test
