If you had $1000 dollars to spend on self-study material...

Post by Rollted » Fri Apr 04, 2014 7:53 pm

The NCAA "opportunity fund" provides collegiate athletes with up to $1000 of funding for academic expenses, including post graduate test-prep material. I qualify for this funding, so I wanted to consult the members of this forum to assemble an ideal self-study program. I have already taken an LSAT course (Blue Print) in preparation for the October 2013 test, but cancelled my score because I didn't finish the Reading Comprehension portion in time -- a section I normally breeze though. I was testing in the 160-165 range, but Blueprint only provides 6 practice exams. My biggest problem was the Logic Games section, which I rarely finished. This time around, I want to take an average of 1 test a week for about 3 months leading up to the October 2014 administration. My goals is a score of at least 170.

Basically, if you had $1000 dollars to spend on self-study material, what would you buy and how would you use it?

Yes, I've used both of them. The PS LR isn't as good.

That escalated quickly. God forbid someone has a different opinion than you. Also, have you even used Manhattan's LR? Because it really is quite incredible and there is a reason it is quickly becoming TLS consensus that Manhattan LR is the best book out there.

Thanks, guys. At this point, it looks like I'm going with

1) LSAT Trainer
2) Cambridge Bundle
3) 7sage (for games)
4) BOTH Manhattan LR strategy guide and Powerscore LR collection, because why not!

One more question, though. Which 7Sage course should I buy?

The games are free to watch

Just buy all the games ever made. Do the game, watch the explanation

The LR and RC you can learn on your own

Yeah all you really NEED are copies of all the games/tests. The manhattan forums are a good place for explanations too.

If I had a budget of $1k, I'd go with:

Cambridge Bundle $280
LGB $44
LRB $38
Manhattan RC $36
SuperPrep $17
Itemwise $8
Manhattan Logic Games Challenge $0
Budget for various other books as needed $100
Analog watch/180 watch $50
Coffee and/or hard liquor $472
Total $1,000
