Question on games retake strategy.

So I took the LSAT in October and scored a 167 -- I went -5 on RC and LR combined, and -9 on games (ugh). My prep has been comprehensive, meaning I've exhausted every PT and have devoted considerable time and effort to this miserable exam. The problem I consistently run into, particularly on the more recent exams, is dealing with "weird" games (e.g. stained glass, the bike game, zones, and the first game on October). I feel like I've internalized common patterns well and that I can handle standard game types, but how would you go about prepping for curve balls? I'm very good about learning from mistakes on these sorts of games, and tend not to repeat my mistakes, but I tend to struggle with them on the first pass.

I'm curious to hear your (or anyone else's thoughts).

Thanks.
I'm in a similar position (cancel-167-179), and I was almost all self-study. The only book I used was this one. I know it's positively ancient by LSAT prep standards, but I went through it a total of twice (half-assed it before my first two LSATs and went through for real before my last one) and came out with games being my favorite, best section by far. It might help. Aside from that, sheer repetition was the trick for me. Not much help, probably, but it's all I got. Best of luck!
Thanks for the input. I'm sure going to keep drilling, but I really wish I new how to simulate the experience of new tricks... If anyone has any ideas, well I'm all ears.

I'll post on the topic a little later, or maybe tomorrow. Kind of in a different mindset right now.

I await your counsel anxiously. Congrats on the 179 -- far more pleasing aesthetically than a lame old 180.

See, Dave Hall, this is all you had to do. The 179 comes out, own it.

Tbf Dave Hall actually has scored a 180 though.

But congrats Noodley. Still laughing at this ridiculous thread concept but congrats all the same.

I think Noodley succeeded. There's no real difference in admissions outcomes between a 179 and a 180, and this was a rough test. Good job, dude, and you will forever be remembered for having the balls to start this thread BEFORE getting your score back.

Dude, do you know how much cooler this thread would be if you had waited to get your score? Also, given your incentive to meet your publicly pre-released guideline, why not post a screenshot to prove said 179? KThxBye.

Admittedly though, I also have a habit of counting chickens before they hatch, so I understand where your were coming from.

You went 169-179. So if I do your method, I can go 170-180 right? Flawless logic, I'm good at this shit.

No but seriously I'm gonna retake in June and follow your thing. Will let you know how it goes.

There is no dream school with a 179. Only safeties.

His backup is Yale.

Not entirely true, I'm afraid. Though I'm sure he's got 'em all on lock. :D

Noodley does not apply to law school. Law schools apply to him.

Couldn't be happier for you, Noodley. To me, your decision to start this thread before your results came in is just that much more of a validation of your study methods, because it bred a confidence that turned out to be spot on. I hope to see a similar jump in my score from Oct to Dec. Hope you get into your #1 school...with $$.

Dude, Noodles didn't make this thread because he was proud of himself, he made it because several October takers asked him to.
