So... is Velocity LSAT good despite the controversy...

it has caused.

First of all, I would like to apologize to you guys. I know you get a lot of these threads, but seeing as I am not affluent in any sense of the word, I thought I would seek your counsel. Also, I have noticed that you accuse people of being self-advertising accounts, but I assure you that I am a real person who is seriously interested in getting his money's worth. I'm sure I probably missed something in this post that would otherwise prevent me from receiving the required tongue lashing from the TLSers, but I just really need help lol.

Thanks.

Have you taken a 5 section timed-diagnostic?

I think you should take one that way you will know where you stand.

If you score a 165, you probably don't need a course. If you scored a 140, then possibly. Either way, I recommend self-study. I was considering Velocity for a moment, but then decided against it because of financial reasons.

Self-study is the way to go.

I won't speculate about why, but there are about a million threads about Velocity on TLS. Use the search function.

155 diagnostic about a month ago... I haven't taken any since then, but I have gone through the bibles (LR + LG) and feel that I understand the LR much better. Obviously I am having areally hard time with thegames. I am able to make the deductions, but sometimes I am only able to get them halfway through the game. I have heard some things about Dave's teaching method (the grid that Powerscore does not recommend), and was wondering if that would help me out. There are just some things that powerscore takes for granted, such as being able to make seven powerful deductions for a game that only allots you nine minutes if you want to score well on the exam. I don't know, it might just be some manifestation of anxiety, but I wanted to hear what you guys had to say.

As for self-study - it's something hard to do. I've already read the powerscore bibles. What else should I do? Take about 5 diagnostic tests under real test conditions and then thoroughly review them?

second edit: and if anybody doesn't want to discuss it publicly, but has something they would like to say add, you can always pm me. I'm sure I can find my way through the website lol.

Dude, if the games are what causes anxiety for you, you're in great shape. Keep working the games out by type, and utilize the strategies recommended in the PS bible. Also, if you find yourself not making any deductions, move on to the questions and/or force a hypothetical. Don't be afraid to attack the games without making deductions. All of the games are solvable and through repetition and practice, you should have no problem come game day (pun intended).

Good luck!

Take a timed PT, then post a breakdown of your score (how many points you missed in each section). Let us know what parts of the test you find most challenging. We can help you develop a study plan once we know where you're at.

If you're having trouble with the games and specifically with Powerscore's approach to the games, then I recommend Velocity. I had a 157 diagnostic and took a powerscore course. I was PTing in the 170s but was very inconsistent on the games, I bombed the games section on the first LSAT I took getting a 160. The powerscore system on the games really didn't work for me.

I took the velocity online course and it really helped me with the games. Dave's style is much different than the powerscore style which requires you to make deductions and such. It's a workmanlike and simplistic but effective approach that has a few great shortcuts. Especially helped me with grouping games. I killed the games on my retake and increased 9 points, going to a t-14 with money now. I'd recommend it.

I was in a similar situation: I had about the same diagnostic, lots of trouble with games, went through the LGB (and some of Manhattan's LG book) and literally just finished Velocity's LG course yesterday.

Overall I thought it was really good and definitely has helped me improve. The biggest advantage of his grid was just that it made it so easy to test out hypotheticals. In my opinion, the other systems didn't emphasize hypotheticals and past work enough, which I think can be the key to games when you don't have a knack for making every inference. Also, I've tried LGB and Manhattan's method for binary games, but I thought Dave's was the most clear by far. Definitely would recommend the course overall.

I do think it's important to realize, though, that no matter what system you use, there will always be some games where you just simply need to make certain inferences or else it's impossible to do that game quickly.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I think it is hard to see what the velocity program actually does for you until after you try to slog your way through another approach. I used the Powerscore self-study method but found that that it was too time consuming. Maybe time consuming is the wrong phrase. What I meant was that changes come too slow. I only had a limited amount of time, so I needed the progress to be faster. Velocity did that for me.
Would it have worked as well for me if I hadn’t tried something else first? I don’t know. I do know that it seemed to streamline the learning process for me.

I highly recommend Velocity. I used Powerscore and had a tutor but could not surmount some of my particular difficulties. Velocity LG did the trick, and the full-test explanations helped me bolster my already strong LR and RC. I'm anxiously waiting for what I hope will be a mid 170's score from the June test... obviously that's an important factor in weighing my recommendation. But I can tell you that taking the test this time after 3 months of Velocity study was WAY different than when I'd taken it in the past.

I took the online course and think it def helped me improve. I read the Powerscore LG Bible and really didnt like their approach to the games. After taking Velocity I can say Dave's approach is 10x better, atleast for me.

If you do in fact have a legitimate claim, you should sue them before you get your money back; otherwise it's pointless. Think about it.
