Overheard at the LSAT

Post by kaftka juice » Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:31 am

I saw a few posts in the Oct. LSAT reactions thread, but I thought it deserved its own thread. What were the most amusing things you overheard other LSAT takers say?

Girl 1: "I studied for, like, and hour a day for, like, two whole weeks!"
Girl 2: "Whoa."

As soon as logic games section started, some guy raises his hand and blurts out: "Hey! Do we get scratch paper?"

The guy next to me: "So, yea, I took the test before and I was pissed because I didn't score anywhere near my highest practice tests. I studied for a few months, took a Kaplan test, and I even came to this room and took PTs on Saturdays before the test under real conditions. I worked my ass off and I scored way below my top practice test score...so I decided to retake. But I've really worked my ass off this time...I took another Kaplan class too. I'm going to kick some ass today."

Me: "That sucks, what was the score that you were shooting for on your first attempt."

Guy next to me: "150-155"

Overheard during the break...

Girl 1: "Oh....my...GOOOODDD. I didn't know youuuuu were taking the LSAT?!?!?!?"
Girl 2: "Oh my God, girl. We are so hot right now. We're like hot lawyers"
Girl 1: "Oh I know...I think about that all the time."
Girl 2: "So how did the first half go?"
Girl 1: "I don't know..did you study."
Girl 2: "Pssstt....no, that's gay."
Girl 1: "I know, right???"

...only at the University of Kentucky

lol...i have so many.

Another one from during the break:

Guy 1: I didn't bring a snack.
Guy 2. That sucks. (eating handfuls of planters mixed nuts)
Guy 1: Give me some of your nuts.
Guy 2: You would want that. (turns away from the other guy and does not share his planters mixed nuts)

Also,

Random guy 1: "Can I use the restroom?"
Proctor: "You have all been checked-in. Once you are checked-in there will be no restroom breaks until the after test starts, then you can ask to be excused."
Random guy 2: "Can I use the restroom?"

what did you say to him? i think i would have a hard time disguising my "you should NOT be going to law school" look.
I just said, "Don't worry. You got it this time. It sounds like you've prepared better than most people I've talked to," which was a total lie, but I felt really bad because he was such a nice guy.

lol who knows, I know people who barely study and do well, really really well. I tend to overestimate people's capabilities too, so I assume those are the people who are naturally just good at this stuff-benefit of the doubt.

Kid A - "Ya dude, it's crazy that, like, our whole career is riding on this test!"

Kid B - "I know man! I probably should have studied."

That's so funny. Why would you retake the same course thinking you'd do better?

lol, that guy sounds like a D-bag. But I totally get what you mean. He's not a D-bag by choice or on purpose. He's just woefully unaware, it's almost kind of cute. I think some of the nicest people I've ever met, and nicest friends I've ever had, were major D-bags.

For the purpose of this post, D-bag just means people who say awesome and 'bruh' a lot.

This thread makes me so happy. And it definitely reinforces the sort of bubble that TLS is in. Yes, most people consider 165 to be a great score, and most people think Pithypike's study guide is completely insane/unnecessary. But not on TLS, oh no.

During the break, the guy next to me said he told his wife to be there to pick him up at 11 cause he thought that was when it would be over. awesome.

the best thing I heard, by far.

Girl 1 "I looked on Emory's website and they said they were accepting applications for 2014. That means they have a 3 year waiting list, JUST TO APPLY!"

Girl 2 "That makes sense, I think a lot of the top schools are that way"

Awesome!

haha. These are the best.

When I was leaving...

Girl 1: I'm surprised there wasn't a math section.
Girl 2: They only test how fast you can argue.

This from one of my friends actually:

Me: "Do you know which one was your experimental"
Him: "What are you talking about"
Me: "You realize one of the sections isn't graded right?"
Him: "So that's why the practice test I took only had four sections!"

Speed arguments should be on the test. That would fucking rock.

This was as I was leaving:

Girl: Did you take a prep course? Did it help?
Me: Yeah. I took PR and had like a 13 point jump.
Girl: I should take one. My biggest issue is timing When I practice at home I give myself a little leeway with the clock. When she called 5 minutes on the 1st LR section I had just started #16.
Me: YIKES!
Girl: Yeah. So I guess timing yourself during these practice tests is important, huh?
Me: Yeah, I would say so.

Eventually she concluded that she would get a score of like 145. I kinda felt bad for her, but she was obviously not too bright. I couldnt believe it...

lol This thread is great.

At my testing location they split us up alphabetically and all the M-Z were in my room. (Kinda sucked b/c the 1st half of the alphabet actually got TABLES and we had those tiny little fold-over lecture desks...). Anyway, this one guy went up to the proctor during check-in:

Guy: So, my ticket says we're in X Hall. But you guys put the M-Z in here instead. I want to test there. Why can't I test there?
Proctor: Well what's your last name?
Guy: Z.

In all fairness we got tables at mine but my score would probably be about two points lower on those crappy little fold down things
