If I plan on transferring to a better law school, should I retake the LSAT?

Post by schramjls » Tue Oct 31, 2017 7:37 pm

Hello everyone!

I recently took the LSAT in June, and despite many months of intensive studying and practice tests, I did not get my desired score. In fact, I obtained a very, very poor score (139). I chalked it up to general test anxiety because my actual score did not reflect any of my practice scores. So, in February I plan on retaking it. In the meantime, I plan to attend a law school, whose standards are quite low, as to get my J.D. faster. Obviously, I do plan on transferring to a better law school in the fall, or the following year. The law school I'm considering transferring to requires a 150 LSAT score.

Should I continue my plans of re-taking the LSAT in February? Or will that not even be considered when I make the transfer?

Thanks in advance! :D

The only part of your plan that is even remotely sound is retaking. Scrap the rest.

your LSAT will not be considered when you transfer, and your chances of transferring are slim.

you need a better plan - sit out this cycle and study some more. maybe law school isn't the right plan for you in general.

Study for the LSAT - get *far* higher than a 150.

This is not how transfers work. This isn't how anything works. Don't do this.

Your LSAT won't be considered when you transfer. You should retake but so you can get into a school you'd want to graduate from. Transferring isn't guaranteed at all, especially because schools that accept students with very low LSAT scores also tend to have very tough curves and fail out a lot of students.

You also can't transfer "in the fall or next year." You can transfer only between 1L and 2L year.
