Pens for law school

Post by LandCrabs#1fan » Thu May 04, 2017 10:02 am

What is the best fountain pen for note taking?

Is a steel nib OK or will my classmates/professors look down on me for not having a gold nib?

Don't sell yourself short. Quill is the only way to go if you want to true experience of studying the law like one of the Founding Fathers.

I recommend a good high quality mechanical pencil. Seriously. Don't skimp on this purchase either, get a $15-25 mechanical pencil and you will be able to use it throughout law school (you will need to buy replacement lead of course).

Do you have suggestions for a good travelling ink well?

Ugh, why even take notes if they aren't archival quality?

I have always used Lamy Safari EF as an undergraduate. I think it is pretty environmentally friendly (compared to going through a dozen regular pens), and it places less stress on my fingers. And not too expensive if you just want to for note-taking and writing quickly.

you really can't go wrong with Pentel's Energel line. i rocked the needle tip throughout law school. it writes so smoothly, but it's also comfy in the hand. it will give you the confidence you need in the classroom.

and obviously go with a mont blanc starwalker if you're trying to show off a bit. make sure to walk around with it. and don't be afraid to brandish it about as you make wild gestures during conversations. chicks LOVE the 1L with the most expensive pen.

Lamy 2000. A workhorse pen and my EDC. Great ink capacity, smooth 14k nib, reliable, durable, and a great value if you can purchase at $100-120. Also, no flashy gold fixtures, so you won't stand out among the proles.
