Dude, Its like you didnt even read what I wrote.

I only defined negligence once, obviously.

I used the template over and over for applying law to fact.

 @ don't tell anyone you're doing this. You think no one has thought of it before? There's a good reason no one uses it and that's because it's a waste of time. Unless you have a professor that just wants you to recite the black letter law (I seriously doubt any professor at a top school is looking for this) focus your time almost solely on the application of the law. It can be helpful to write out some sort of decision tree to hang the application on, but you should be spending a very small amount of time explaining the law. So small that pre-writing is not going to save you any time on the exam.

Also, what you describe sounds like something that would be very much against the honor code at my school so proceed with caution.
I just mean its not an obvious strategy that most people think of or use.

And as far as being an honorcode violation....

its basically writing your outline out in essay form. I dont see how that could be an honor violation.
Are you copying text and pasting it into your answer? That is an honor code violation for all classes at my school.

Did you have it in your outline and retype it into your answer? A huge waste of time and an honor code violation for some professors.

I agree that you should have a pre-made decision tree or checklist or whatever you want to call it. That's just different forms of an outline. But I would advise against pre-writing because it likely means you are wasting time on things you don't need to explain. A rule should only take a sentence to explain.

Im not talking about trying to predict answers and prewriting reasoning.

Okay, then we're on the same page. It sounded like you were talking about writing stuff out ahead of time to put in your answer, which I know people who have thought that was a good idea.

Just read an introduction post on the discussion board from one of my soon-to-be classmates. Literally the single most insufferable piece of scholarship I've ever seen.

Heard from multiple people the best thing to do before law school is to get into a good workout regimen.

I've been practicing my speed, trying to get over 100 consistently, but if you're at 50... you really should learn how to type.

http://www.typingweb.com/ (haven't used it, but looks like it should help).

How have you been practicing?

And thanks for the suggestion M458, I will look into it.

Well, orientation basically starts tomorrow and I did zero prep. I played video games, drank, and hung out with a girl I like. I bought gtm on my kindle, but didn't really read it.

Do not do this. There is no point. Wait till you get your own syllabi and assignments at the end of the summer.

To scare off any other 0Ls thinking of doing this: you will fuck yourself up trying to read cases as a 0L. Your professors want specific things from each case or section in the casebook. You will write dumb, irrelevant shit before you figure what they want. You're going to have pages upon pages of worthless notes from the beginning of the semester anyway; don't magnify the problem by getting bad readings of all your cases in your head.
