Teaching, I love working with kids. Have also dreamed about a PhD in legal history and working with pre-law undergrads. And owning my own restaurant.

If only.

The thing is most of my "dream jobs" involve not just a position, but a position at a particular place or institution - somewhere old, and grand, and beautiful. Perhaps it's a symptom of coming from a relatively young country. I don't think I'd find the job alone stisfying enough if it wasn't connected to some such place.

Law School doesn't necessarily mean the end of either of those paths (though perhaps it is a rather expensive detour) but I think now I think mostly about retiring relatively young and spending (read: wasting) all my money restoring some dilapidated Early Modern chateau in the French countryside. Perhaps farming the land around it too.
No THAT'S a dream. :D

Yup. You can get them super cheap, and they come with more land then I'd know what to do with. They all have 25-50 rooms, so you're welcome to come stay for awhile if you like.

Professional skateboarder. Spent my whole childhood skating and drinking and smoking, went away to college and became boring. I miss being a skate rat.

More realistically, career waiter. I love the food industry so much, I love being a part of a crew, I love that type of involvement with food and customer service. It would be more realistic to have health care and vacation days and an office job, but 5000% less exciting. Honestly, my target school city has a surplus of restaurants and a paucity of legal careers - I may end up doing this anyway.

My dream job would have been to become an astrophysicist. Just spend time in a lab working with lasers or figuring out equations for black holes.

That or politician.

My first professional aspiration was to be a cheerleader for the Dallas cowboys. I was 5. My mother, avid feminist, almost lost it.

Then I wanted to be one of those "go everywhere around the world punishing the bad guys" types.

Similar to me, I aspire to be a prosecutor at an international tribunal.

Sure, it's a thing. Mainly not entry level and more difficult (imo) for a US lawyer practicing in the US versus practicing in a foreign country.

It sounds cool, but I also just feel like there isn't much effectiveness in legal international enforcement.

Depends on who you ask. But yeah, it's not really a job track as much as an opportunity that might present itself if you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. Look at any prosecutor on an international tribunal (or the ICC), and you'll see a very diverse array of resumes.

I wanted to own an old Victorian mansion in San Fran and run it as a bed and breakfast. Deal breaker though - it must be (rumored to be) haunted.

I really want to be a chef. I actually looked into applying to culinary school instead of law school.

I still think I might quit working as an attorney in my late 40s and become a personal chef. Then I can do both :D
