CALLING ALL SUMMER STARTERS: Plz come in this thread and be active. I want to know you and know if I would fit in with you
I'm also going to put some more summer-specific info.
Helpful links
Main Summer starters page from admitted students site
Summer starters page on LS website
Off-campus housing site (a lot of sublets are listed on here for pretty good prices)
Admitted students FB
Summer Start 2017 FB

Merit-based aid: automatically considered upon acceptance, notified via email (even if you're not getting anything )
Need-based grants: school-specific form available via admitted students site (is essentially a need-based calculator telling you whether or not you appear to qualify for need-based aid), CSS (they say not to submit this until you submit the school form)
Federal loans (aka the cause of our despair): FAFSA
Summer starters listed as "Ask A Wolverine" contacts (didn't put emails/last names because I'm not sure if these are private/only for admitted students)
Nadia
Mario (can confirm Mario is really nice and helpful; he advocates for Michigan in a way that doesn't seem pushy/over-enthusiastic/fake)
Alysha
Benjamin
Serena
Zachary (Zack)
Important dates
Preview Weekend I: March 23-25
Preview Weekend II: April 6-8
Orientation: May 30-31
FDOC: June 1
LDOC: August 11
Exams: August 15-17

Come to Michigan
Explore Ann Arbor
Michigan's Big House
Michigan Law Student Interviews
Summer at the University of Michigan
Michigan Law: Student Support
Meaningful Places: The Michigan Union
Meaningful Places: Nichols Arboretum

My understanding is that you can ask to be deferred to fall start, but you can't do it just because you don't want to start in the summer. You need actual reasons.

You as well! Thanks for starting the thread.brinicolec wrote:Welcome! Are you fairly decided or still pretty unsure?Bob loblaw law blog wrote:Checking in
I'm like 60% there, I won't know scholarship info from Duke for a while though and that's probably the last piece of info I need. Also going to do UVAs ASW to see if they can't get me to forget about the huge difference in price (for me) between them and Michigan. and waiting on decision Chicago but I'm kinda assuming I'll be waitlisted.
...So maybe more like 50%, but Michigan is the clear front runner.

I'm more at like... 60%. Need to visit the area and need to see if I can convince them to give me any money. However, my eyes are currently sad because I've spent the last hour or so bookmarking outside scholarships I can apply to in order to try to supplement my education, so I'm leaning towards Michigan, but still having difficulty wrapping my head around the potential debt lolBob loblaw law blog wrote:brinicolec wrote:Welcome! I am like 90% sure I'm not going and I am so bummed about it. Its too much money. Maybe something happens and it works, but idk. I am going to the first ASW, though, because its not a no yet!

If 60+ degrees in NY in FEBRUARY is an indication of how hot it's going to be this summer, I'll take Ann Arbor during Summer Start any day. It's going to be brutal...

I was wondering why everyone chose summer start, or why they think Mich thought that they would work well as a summer starter? It's supposedly a big gut-feeling, sorta thing. And ngl, I kind of love the exclusive sort of feeling that will likely come from being the only ones on campus.

I've been outta school for a while, the relative "easing back in" offered via summer start vs. fall was appealing.
Also Ann Arbor in summers is just absolutely glorious in every way.

At first I choose it simply because it seems to me that it would make one more likely to be admitted. Once I was in I was kinda unsure about it at first but now I'm happy I did. The idea of easing in to the infamous first year of LS seems smart, plus I wanna get to know people more and see what Ann Arbor is like when it's actually warm.

Know someone who's a summer starter. She loves it. She also said that you get closer with your section because it's smaller. I'm not really sure what made adcomm think I'd be a solid summer starter lol
