If they're like Lexis branded or something then do not want

As for the residency question- from what I understand, very difficult to acquire if you don't already have it before 1L

I'll trade you mine. It's a cool item, but it isn't stamped with "T14" so I'll wait for next year's updated model.

Did anyone else get the e-mail from the Thurgood Marshall Law Society about a banquet invite after ASD II? It's a formal event.

See that the OP says that April 7th is the deadline for a deposit but I can't find mention of this anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find that info? TIA

So I met someone who works at the Harris County DA's office (Houston) at work today. I told her I got accepted to Texas law and she thought I meant Texas Southern or South Texas college of law lol. She told me she loves her job and almost everyone she works with loves their job too. She tried selling me on South Texas (I didn't have the heart to tell her that I would never think about going there) since apparently it has a program where some students take night classes and have paid internships during the day at the DA's office, which sounds cool and all, but the school isn't that great. She also told me which ever school I go to doesn't matter for them, which I find kind of weird.

I got her business card and she said she could hook me up with the person who does internships for the DA's office, so hopefully I can start my networking early enough to get a summer gig at the DA's office :D

Responding because you have an awesome name. I called and a woman in the admissions office told me it was the 7th, and confirmed that you have to login to your utexas account to find seat deposit information. Somewhere under "what i owe" or something like that. She was kind of short about the whole thing so once i got the date I tuned her out.

It's at the bottom of the admitted students page and off to the right under "dates and deadlines" or something like that. Not sure where it is if you don't have access to the admitted students page yet, though.

lol I had a co-worker who told me to apply to St. Mary's in San Antonio. (I didn't.)

also future internship opportunities = amazing

I wonder when it's a good time to start chatting up attorneys about future employment since it's a no-no once 1L starts until December

Just visited Texas Law! UT is great and so is Austin! Not too different from SoCal in the laid back vibe (also there are a few InNOuts!)

Did you sit in on a class? How was it?
Also did you get any info on scholly negotiations? I saw somewhere that fin aid had told them there's money still availble. Hear anything like that? I'm about to submit my reconsideration.

Whataburger is great, but P. Terry's is the move like 99% of the time.

Also, current 1L who can answer questions if you have any.

The class was great! It felt very lively like everyone was talking and having fun before class. The Prof was nice and very engaging. Students knew their stuff! As for reconsideration, I didn't ask about funds, but I personally was able to get about $17k (Non-Resident Tuition Examption+1000 for my first year only) after reconsideration (up from nothing). I showed them my Vandy, WUSTL, and USC offers and mentioned I was in @ UVA.

People calling P. Terry's overrated are spreading fake news. Have you been to the new one at 35 and 2222?

1. It looks like a damn spaceship.
2. The ingredients are the freshest damn things in the world.

Too far away.

What have been your takeaways from your first 1 and 1/2 semesters of UT?

I legitimately think that it's the best law school in the country for students. I know that's the tagline, and if you've been to ASD or an alumni event you've probably heard Dean Farnsworth rattle that line off before diving into a subtle reminder for alumni to donate, but it's the God's honest truth. I have friends at every other school in the T14, and none of them even come close to having as many friendships as the average 1L at UT does with their classmates. It's a completely uncompetitive environment.

People work hard, but they also work together. I can count on one hand the number of people in my section of 80 who study alone, and they're not at the top of the class (as far as I know). Bar Review is well attended all semester (most students at top schools will tell you it fizzles out the closer you get to finals, but that's not the case here), and the functions and social groups that the school provides for you (called Societies and Dean's Fellow groups) basically ensure that you're close with a large portion of your section.

Also, the professors and classes are scary good. Of the six professors I've had in doctrinal courses so far, three authored the casebooks and two of the remaining three authored casebooks in other subjects. They're all in the top five in the country in something, even if it isn't the class you're in at the time, and they're literally always at their office hours. I can't tell you how many casual conversations I've had one on one with professors, which won't be the case at many schools.

tl;dr my takeaway is that UT is the best place in the world to be a law student. If you want to end up in Texas, enroll. If you want to end up somewhere else (that isn't Boston), enroll. Literally just enroll, then come down to Austin and we'll go get drunk outside and eat tacos while the rest of the T14 is buried in snow.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
