Re: UChicago Class of 2020
The form says requests won't be considered until after April 20, but may be so sooner depending on other school deadlines. April 20 is kinda late though, so I hope the other school deadlines thing is true.gypsyroselily wrote:Not yet - impatiently waiting on Berkeley's offer :/poptart123 wrote:Anybody negotiate scholarships yet?

Yes, search for The University of Chicago Law School Class of 2020 and request to join, someone will approve you.Anontwentytwenty wrote:Is there a Facebook group for the class of 2020?

What? That is WAY late and super stressful! How are we supposed to make the seat deposit deadline if they don't get back to us?poptart123 wrote:The form says requests won't be considered until after April 20, but may be so sooner depending on other school deadlines. Re: UChicago Class of 2020
I didn't feel like it affected the dynamic at all. People don't really talk about grades, and you don't have to talk a lot in class in order to stand out to profs and get rec letters.VA2lawschool wrote:Thanks for providing your take, that makes sense! I don't think I would be concerned if it didn't affect the dynamic amongst students (particularly in 1L sections). I would ask an alum on here, but I'm not sure whether that question has been beaten to death previously.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:I don't have any special insight, but that reputation makes since given that UChi's grading scale lends itself more to pretty detailed comparisons between students more than other peer schools (i.e. the high pass/pass/low pass system at Harvard/no grades at Yale (is that a thing?)). It's pretty easy for employers/judges/whoever is hiring to look at two transcripts and deduce that a 182 is better than a 180, whereas both of those students at Harvard might have had a high pass and been seen as the same, for all intents and purposes. But that is based on my very limited knowledge of how Chi's grading works!VA2lawschool wrote:Same! Also, and perhaps this is an unfair assessment, but does it concern anyone that UChicago Law tends to have a reputation for being particularly harsh/competitive when it comes to grading? I've heard murmurs of "grade deflation." Anyone have any insight on this?Anon.y.mousse. wrote:yeah I did last night!curry1 wrote:anyone get an e-mail from a faculty member yet?
ETA: It doesn't particularly concern me I guess because UChi's reputation is so solid overall that those really granular comparisons might not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Also I guess I don't have any info as to the other point - the percentage of Chi students earning what would constitute an A or a HP or an equivalent outstanding grade at other peer schools.

Shoreland, Vue 53. Should be able to tour them at the same time you tour Regents.armc808 wrote:I know Regents Park is the most popular housing option for 1Ls, but I was wondering what other apartments are pretty popular among law students in HP? Should be okay, but probably worth asking someone in financial aid.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:So I just realized I effed up - didn't realize that Chicago needed parental info on FAFSA because every other school I've submitted it to didn't need it on the FAFSA because they were getting it from CSS or whatever. I HIGHLY doubt I would qualify for need-based aid based on my parents' income, so at the moment I'm inclined to just leave it as is but I don't know if it will hurt me and I don't want to leave money on the table because Chicago is probably my top choice. People who have gotten their scholarship awards already - was it predominantly merit-based? Did it specify?

Same. Hopefully there are free t-shirts. I didn't spent $200+ on a plane ticket to leave empty handed.TudoBem wrote:So pumped for ASW, just saying...

Agreed. Initially signed up for bowling as a way to possibly engage in better convo, and then I remembered that there will be more students, alcohol, and no sports I'm bad at in Regents.poptart123 wrote:Yes, seemed like the easiest way to interact with the most students and I suck at bowling.LSRAT wrote:Are y'all doing the mixer at Regents on Thursday night?

It's on the submission form before and after you submit it -- I don't know if I can link it after I've left the submission screenMAPP wrote:Wait April 20 is the earliest for UChi?poptart123 wrote:The form says requests won't be considered until after April 20, but may be so sooner depending on other school deadlines. What they say regarding the notification is: "The Scholarship Committee will consider requests for review starting Thursday, April 20, 2017 and you will receive a decision before the Monday, May 1, 2017 deposit deadline. If you have an earlier deadline at another law school that you have identified above, we will attempt to review your file before that date. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to consider your file before your deadlines at other institutions."
Overall the point is that as long as you submit the form by April 19th, they will notify you by May 1st, but they will try to do it earlier if you have an earlier deadline. Probably the best thing to do in that case is to submit it as early as possible.

Has anyone going to the admitted students' weekend not received any communication regarding the student they will stay with? I'm getting kind of worried that I messed up in registration somehow.
